Default Sapac Typhoon

I have a sapac Typhoon (Pictures in my gallery) and I have replaced all the electronics but the motor. Today when I flew it it seemed to have less power and eat the batteries in like 2 mins. I put a meter on the motor and it is drawing 40amps. I have a Phoenix45 ESC in her so it can handle the load but should this motor be drawing that many amps? I want to replace the motor but am not sure which motor to get, any help would be appreciated.

That does seem like a massive current draw...

as above have you checked the fan for damage? Does it run in balance? Any slipping?

The motor i was recommended for a punchy setup by the guys I'm buying from was this one http://rc-castle.com/shop/product_in...roducts_id=897 and it's not too expensive either. I tried to find a US site with it, but that's as close as i got lol. the other motor they recommend (but the first is better for performance they said, and cheaper) is the hxt 2040 4300kv motor which should give 400 watts on 3s apparantly.

Please note I can't yet recommend that one myself, I am still waiting to get my typhoon

There are 3 Euros, mine included, here at my field and everyone of them pull 40 to 43amps on 3cell.

odd, that's a lot higher than the sapac rep was saying in the thread over on rc groups...

No wonder the stock ESC fries!

I flew my Typhoon for the 1st time last week and got about 5 (5 to 7 minute) flights in that day, it flew great. On Saturday I took her out and the 1st flight it flew slow and labored to stay in the air. I landed and put a new 2200mah 25C 3 cell battery in and got a 2 1/2 minute flight out of it before I dead sticked it in. The battery was very hot and when I tested the motor it was drawing 40 amps. I called Sapac and they are sending me a new motor, I have heard that the 1st batch or so of Typhoons had bad motors. Sapac is now put the motor that comes with the T-45 in the Typhoon.

I tried to test fly my Typhoon today with the new motor that Sapac sent me and it was such a dog it did not even take off. I'm booting the stock Sapac motor and ordered
1 x HET 6904 EDF unit - 70mm with 3.17mm adapter (HET6904) = $39.99
1 x Typhoon EDF-2W 450W motor for 70mm fans (HETEDF2W) = $59.99.
This set up is pushing 450 watts which should be plenty of power, screw the Sapac garbage.

I flew my Typhoon today with the 3300mah 25c 3s pack and it flew awesome, it had a lot more power with this pack. It handled the wind fine and landed beautifully even with the added weight. I'm getting a few more of these packs to feed her.

Was that flight with the Sapac motor or the Typhoon 2W ?

It was the HET 2w motor with the HET 6904 fan and I got over 5 minutes with it and had no problems with balancing it. Mounting the ESC in the rear is a win, win on this plane.
