Default HET 6904 Motors?

Has anyone tried the Jet Screemer 1400 motor from Hobby Lobby in the HET 6904 fan? If so, any performance specs (i.e. battery, amps, power)? I'm considering this for my Ziroli Turbinator-E.

What other motors have you used and what oerformance specs can you supply?

I get 49.200rpm with a 2W25 on 6 cells at 58 amps. 87 amps is way high for comfortable flight times

I got a 2W-20 on 4S and it gave me around 550+W ... with the 2W-25 on 6S I touched 1,300W (about 60A) on fresh packs, it will of course be lower when the pack rests.

You need better 4s packs Tianci! My 2W20 setups sit around 750 watts once stabilised with our 3200 25c cells. My 2W25 power is stabilised, thats after 15-20 seconds running, 1250 watts or so sustained

need heelp!!
My 2w-25 on six cells is only showing 600 watts. I'm two evo 25 3 cell batteries in series with 25c. I don't know what to do.

OK.. I'm totally new to EDFs here.. So I'm going to ask a really "ignorant" question.

But my building skills are very good.

Anyway, I fell in love with the turbinator-e by Nick Ziroli. Last Friday (10-16-09) I ordered stuff. (plans, short kits, fan/motor).

By reading this and numerous other threads. I settled on the HET 6904 EDF and a 2W-25 motor.

I read somewhere about a thrust tube? Is this the tube that extends out the back of the EDF? I didn't find any reference of a thrust tube in association with a 6904. Is there such a thing?

I would think a thrust tube would seriously inhibit motor cooling.

Would somebody provide a few "in simple terms" answers???

Thanks in advance...

A thrust tube is normally used to provide a smooth pathway from the rear of the fan unit to the exhaust nozzle. You can make one yourself easily from drafting mylar or other plastic sheet which can be rolled into a tube.

Just roll some plastic so it fits over the rear of the fan and tape it in place to the rear of the fan shroud. If you want to get fancy, a lot of folks restrict the rear of the tube (no matter how long it ends up being to get to the rear of the exahust nozzle) to about 85% of the fan swept area (FSA). You find that by taking the area of the inside of the fan disc, and subtract the hub area (thus the area swept out by the fan blades themselves). Then take 85% of that and then work backward to get the diameter of the new disc. Chances are the rear of your exhaust is probably already at the right diameter giiven the turbinator normally takes ~70mm fan which your 6904 is.

thrust tubes can be relatively flimsy and taped together cause they are always under positive pressure. Your turbinator doesn't have intake ducts, but ones could be made for even more efficiency, but that's another subject and probably not worth the effort for this plane.

I am new to EDF as well and am trying to find a powerplant and battery setup for the Turbinator E. ejf.com has three pre packaged power setups http://www.ejf.com/index.php?main_pa...x&cPath=77_161 and I am trying to figure out which would be the best. A previous poster said he picked the one with the 2w-25 motor...but that says its for 6s only and I read in the article about the turbinator that it takes 4s...so what do you guys recommend I do. I am not looking to break the sound barrier or tear the wings off.

You are free to use whatever batteries will fit in that plane assuming they are up to the job. Often the decision to go with one fan/motor setup depends on what batteries one already owns, and what will fit in the plane. It sounds like you're just starting out, so you need to do a little researching and shopping for batteries.

I don't have a lot of experience with 70mm fans (the size you need for that plane), but I do know that Shulman Aviation makes an ARF of that plane and sells the line of "Fury Fans" expressly for it. I do own a couple of these fans and they're really nice although I haven't flown anything with them yet but they are very smooth and come fully assembled. For the Turbinator, they recommend either the 4S or 6S versions.

http://www.shulmanaviation.com/shopd...&cat=Fury+Fans

If you have questions on that plane, I recommend contacting Don at Shulman. He's a great guy to do business with and Shulman only sells top shelf equipment. The HET series of fans are also excellent.

For high power setups in planes of this weight, most people seem to choose a ~3300 size 4S pack and a 6904 fan on the 2W 20 motor:

http://www.ejf.com/index.php?main_pa...roducts_id=660

The Fury fans will also run on the 3300 size packs (you're really looking for a size and "C" rating which will support the motor draw at full throttle). Note there are two different versions of the 68mm Fury Fans which run with either 4S or 6S packs.

It's easy to find ~3000 size packs with 20 or 30 C ratings which will give you the Amperage capability you need. I advise getting a few packs and get the highest C rating you can afford as the batteries will last longer if you push them hard.

For batteries, Hobby King is hard to beat these days.

Joe
