Default Crash course in EDF. Is it possible?

How does one go about acquiring correct information on EDF rapidly? My concern isthe best quality and product performance. Are there"grades?" Like compitition grade VS. sport grade?

I have a model I built some years ago that may be a canadate for EDF. It was intended for prop so it's not the lightest model for it's size.

My interest would be weight obviously, engine choice/thrust, cheater holes :-(, and exhaust size. Did I leave anything out?

It's not a large model. 54" in length and 55" in span. I actually increased the wing area from scale.

This is the only photo I have, at the moment. I will get others.

The model is in the center of the photo. It's the C-101 Avio Jet.

Thanks in advance.

Charles

Hi Charles.

You have to go here: http://www.rcgroups.com/electric-duc...n-jet-talk-12/
Ask your question there, and get all the right answers.

I would guess a 90mm fan would do the job, or maybe larger...

These guys from germany reccomend a 120mm fan in their kit:

I recommend visiting RC Groups and checking out the : "Electric Ducted Fan Jet Talk" forum.

As far as a "Crash Course," I would find a few threads for planes in your weight/size category and keep notes on what people are using esp battery/fain combos. Develop a Watts/lb factor you would like to achieve and also see if the ducting you have will support any of the current fans. Most likely you will need to make your own ducting to get the best performance.

I know you have a current project in mind, but it also may be good to "get your feet wet" by tyring one of the cheaper ARF type foamie planes just to see what you're in for before investing more time and cash into the big jet. Batteries for that size plane are much more expensive (for quality lipos in 30 - 40C rating).

All good advice! Thank you.

SJN,

That Casa Jet? WOW! Thanks for that.

I don't know what they are saying in their website, nothing is in English? Do you personally know of this CASmodel from those suppliers?

Be nice if I could read the description text.

My crash course has already told me that batteries can weigh 4 lbs.
