Questions about Kyosho T-33A
 

Can somone post about building the Kyosho T-33? Can a guy with little building skills rig this sucker up or does it take a little more experience? also what motor do you recommend? Its my first ducted fan plane, its OK for beginners in ducted fan?

The plane bulids in only a few hours. It is pretty simple to assemble. It is fairly easy to fly and makes a great first EDF. However it should not be your first aileron aircraft. The stock motor on 7 cells will fly fine but it often takes a good strong handlaunch or a bungee launcher.

Several people have reported success at another eflight related site using a Mega 16/15/2 and 6 cells Nimh or 2 S LiPo.

Since it is not assembled yet, I would urge you to use the Mega 16/15/2 with a 6 cell pack or the 16/15/3 with a 3s lipo. These motors help this thing fly so much better.

The advice here on the T-33 is right on the mark. I have one and I really like it. Here's what I did to improve the performance of mine:

1. I used the stock fan. It's a pretty decent fan, especially for the money. I careflully balanced the rotor.

2. Replaced stock motor with a Mega 16-15-2 and 6 cells (Gold Peak 3300's) I will be switching to either 2s4p 6000 mah or 2s6p 9000 mah Kokams. I also used a Castle Phoenix 45. I hindsight, I probably should have moved the speed control into the exhaust duct for cooling because I had problems with it overheating in the battery compartment. I solved that problem with Radio Shack heat sinks.

3. I filled in the cheater holes on the lower portion of the inlet.

4. Notice the notch ahead of the inlets molded into the fuselage. I sanded these off. This easiest to do before gluing the fuselage halves together.

5. I rounded the inlet lips. This is probably the most important mod you can make, it really helps with air flow to the fan.

6. Although purely cosmetic, I heavily customized mine and covered it with Solar Film (using very low iron temp) to replicate the natural aluminum finish.

Wow NCC-1701, ur T-33 looks great!! I like a lot that aluminum finish. Weigh grows very much with that decoration? The man of the shop said me "Dont paint your plane or it will not fly! too much weigh"

I had a minimal weight gain because I used Solar Film. It's very light and goes on at low temperature. The aluminum, orange, and white/blue striping are all Solar Film. The US insignias and USAF decals were from the kit decal sheet. The unit badge (36th Fighter-Bomber Group), buzz numbers, etc are water slide decals I made on my computer.

The beauty of the Mega /2 hop-up is you lose alot of weight over the stock set-up, lighter motor and fewer cells. Any weight gain from detailing are more than compensated for by the lighter power system.

Sadly, the Kyosho T33 is no longer available.

Sometimes they show up on E-Bay but be prepeared to pay a lot more than what it is worth.

On the other hand, if you can manage to buy one, you will find it is a great flying EDF. Even on the stock motor and fan.

The BL makes a good plane just that much better.

What ever you choose, you need about 10 oz in the nose if it's built well and still undamaged(no repair weight throwing off the stock weight). That would be 8~9 KAN 1950 cells or a 2500~3000 3s pack and some lead ballast. 10 oz of 3s lipos would be about 130.00. If you happen to have a /2, a 6 cell KAN or 2 S lipo, it ends up being a little cheaper.
