Hello. Im looking for a second airplane. Ive been flying the skypilot and i love it. Im pretty good now. I can fly controlled, land and do touch ang go, and have good control of the airplane. Its a 3 channel R/E/T. I am looking at the DMZ Cherokee. I was checking it out at the store and it looks pretty sweet. The control surfaces come hinged already which is pretty neat. Brings a 370 motor. The instructions call for a 9.6v 1400mah battery. I am thinking of using a AP2000-3S 2000mAh, 3 cell (11.1V) battery on it. Would that be a good choice? I want to know if anyone has one of these airplanes or has built one or flown one. I would like to know how it flies. Thanks.

hi navihawk
Actually, i think that groupner makes this plane. I think that if you can fly the skypilot very well, takeoff and land from the ground, figure 8's(flat, of cource), patterns, ect., you could fly the grouner cheroke.
Very important-- i have a feeling that you will want to go brushless on this plane. It is a beuty, and planes like this often need brushless power. I have the groupner cessna(same weight), And it did not fly very well with the 370. I would recomend a brushless motor, with a 3 cell 1325 mAh lipo battary. Never use nicads, or nimh. Talk to your hobby shop about a good motor,
hope this helps!!

Thanks lulubelle
Just purchased it yesterday. I dont have the optic 6 radio yet but i still have the servos from my skypilot so i hooked them up and tried out the steering on the front wheel. Its pretty cool. This is my first build. It took me a while to get the gear to turn correctly but after it did and I tried it was pretty neat. I was happy to know that it came pre-hinged. Seems like its an easy airplane to build. I set up the landing gear and thats pretty much it. Just taking my time building it. Few questions though. I am going to use the stock motor for a bit until i can get a brushless one. What kind of lipo would I have to get. I am thinking of something like a 2 cell 1600 mah, or a 3 cell 2000 mah? Just wondering because the skypilot had a 380 motor on it but it was direct drive not geared and it ran fine with the 7.4 1100 mah nimh it broungt, it had plenty of power to pull it out of a bad sittuation. Would the 3 cell burn out the motor? Depending on which battery i should get then ill decide on the esc. Just would like to know about the battery issue.

Congradulations on your purshase! I looks like a really fun plane! It uses a geared 370, right?
Anyway, yes, a 3 celllipo would burn it out. It would start to smoke and stuff.....don't ask me how i know. lol. Use a thunder power 2 cell, 1325 mah lipo battery. There great!
Ya, use the motor that came with it. Try it out. If it dosn't work, get a brushless. If it soes work, use it untill it is dead(usually around 10-15 hours) and then buy a brushless.
Good luck with your new plane! It should be lots of fun!
If you have another question, let me know!
