Default mini slinger..esc and motor

I am new to eletrics and have connected the esc to the battery and you are suppose to get 3 beeps then move throttle to high and get 5 beeps. I get this once in a while but the motor does not work but most of the time I just get a constant slow beep. I am sure everthing is connected properly. I don't know much about electrics so need some help on a possible solution or things I should be looking at. Also how do I test to see if the motor is OK.

Thanks in advance
Tim
