Default Keep wing struts on Super Cub?

Is it necessary or advisable to keep the wing struts on my Super Cub? Are the struts more likely to prevent damage to the wing in a crash or increase it?

Default RE: Keep wing struts on Super Cub?

From what I read keep them. It has been suggested its possible to loose a wing if you don't.
This is what I read anyhow.
