Still windy in Texas ? I got to fly again yesterday with
the instructor. I got to land on my second and third flight.
What a rush lol, I have a great instructor, he had me practicing
approaches. He said your doing good, go ahead and land.
I didn't have time to worry about it, as I was 10 feet off the
deck, so I landed. I think he was as thrilled as me lol.

You know i have lived here all my 58 years and have not seen the wind blow so much.
We have been on vacation last week, i called my folks and they had some 40 to 50 mile per hr winds down here.
Its blowing 15 to 25 today. I got back yesterday some of my wood fence had blown down.
Any way hope to fly soon

Yeah, I hope you do too. It's been like August here, hot
and bone dry. We'll see what this week brings.

I haven't flown a plane yet and wanting to get into this.
How many batteries do you carry for non stop flying.
With non stop I mean, drain a battery set while flying... in the meanwhile charging others.. including approx 5-10 mins of checkup, battery replacement times.
I am hoping to get atleast 2 hours of flight.. as others folks at my flying field have nitros and I have to keep up with them :-)

I have been playing with electric RC cars, trucks and so I have lots of 6 cell NiMH packs .. about 4500 mAh each. Can they be used with Electristar. Would that require any prop changes?

FWIW
I have 2 Lipo's 3200 mAh's each. If I had 2 more I
would be happy with the flying time they would provide.
It is easy to re charge 1 pac at the field, but it take a
little over an hour . I charge mine @1.5 amps ( .5c).
That and I keep an eye on my pacs when I charge. Some
people don't, and go fly another pac, while charging.
Hey alan and glenn ,
Hope to solo next time out [sm=idea.gif]. Still windy
here and hottttttttt.

The electristar was a good trainer at the time but it has had its day. If I were starting out today, I'd opt for the E Flite T34 Mentor. For a lot less $ than I paid for my e'star, you get a DX6 radio and lipo with charger., plus a plane that converts from trainer to acrobat. Don't get me wrong; I still like flying it, but it's a struggle getting it airborne with those heavy 7 cell nimh batteries. I don't want to invest in lipos 'til I find another plane that I can use the motor and esc in.

I'm using a T.P. 610c charger w/balancer on my
Flight Power 4s 3200 mah pacs. Using a 12 volt tractor
battery to power the charger ($23 @ lowes).
Has anybody had to replace their Motor ? I'm curious
as to what Axi motor would have a little more power,
than the stock motor? Or would a prop change be in
order ?

RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF
Just got my new Electristar on Friday. I don't have the batteries & charger yet, but I couldn't resist putting it together. I was very impressed with the planes quality & fiinish. This will be my first RC in over 2 decades & first electric EVER. As such, I consider myself a born-again beginner. I wanted to start up without the mess of transporting fuel, fillijng tanks & cleaning excess fuel off models constantly. Slowly learning, but the world of batteries & chargers available is a bit bewildering. Trying to start off economically at first. Any suggestuions for the best balance of efficiency & economy from all you experts out there?

Cycle the batteries to cure the surging, and get the capacity up to rated specs. I have 2 sets of nimhs, and 1 set of lipos. I do have 2 chargers. So after the electristar goes up, I usually fly some of the smaller electrics. I'm an Ultrafly junkie, and have a grundle of their models on 3s 2100 pacs. I carry a deep cycle marine battery charged up to keep the chargers humming.

Hey guys I haven't checked in lately. Been doing lots of flying! I've been flying the Estar on 5sA123 also have a 3200 4s lipo flys great! 15+ min. I have my Beaver in the air also. It flys great when the CG is right! Also just built the Hangar 9 Piper Pawnee 80" have a E-flight 60 in it with 2x 6sA123. This is a GREAT PLANE! very easy to fly! Finding one may be a problem.
Dump the 7cells and get a lipo! you will love it!

Glen
Are you getting 15 minutes on your 4s 3200 Lipo ?
CTMike100
I would say parts will be or already are hard to get.

So, what are options in similar range. I mean an electric trainer of about the same size as ElectriStar.
Would E Flite T34 Mentor be any good for a beginner, especially when its not a high winger.

RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF
Read all the postings and couldn't agree more with all of them. After being in this hobby near 50 years I suffferred a stroke a few years ago and besides a temporary loss of speech and a few other things found out that much of my flight skills had greatly diminished. I start crashing a lot of planes and basically had to learn all over again. This electric trainer was a gigantic help, along with the Great Planes G-3, 3.5 and 4.0, to slowly regain the coordination to fly again. While I am still have a long way to go, I would reccommend this electric trainer to any older person who has not flown for a long time or had a CVA to overcome.

Roger
Welcome back to the fun !
FWIW, I did a touch n go yesterday and was
concerned about having enough power on the
go part. This was about 8 minutes in on the lipo.
Other than wanting a bit more Umph (power) I
am very happy with the way this plane flys.

I haven't seen any posts anywhere where someone has upgraded the motor on the electristar. Does anyone know of an upgrade?

RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF
Hi all,
I was ground testing my new Electristar ( bought in Feb ) today just to run down the batteries so I can get a fresh charge on them.
When I would throw the throttle up the engine would really snap loudly. I just thought it was the torque but when I was done the engine was loose. I took the engine off the firewall and the countersunk screws on the back were loose and 1 was even missing.
I then put threadlocker on the remaining screws and tightened it back together. I then called Tower Hobbies and they are sending me spare countersunk screws. Has anyone had a similar problem with theirs on another plane? It's supposed to be RTF but now I feel I have to check every nut and bolt, not just on the surface controls. The manual said to put threadlocker on the prop set screw but that's it. Any comments or ideas?
Thanks

If you read my first couple of posts, I mentioned that
I went through and re checked every screw, nut and wire.
You'll want to do this after flying also, IMO. Remember
these are made in China.
Other than that, i'm happy with mine, except for the motor
( needs more umph). IMO. I put locktite on all my motor screws
too.
