Glider motor gearbox can anyone help please???
Hi
I am totally new to electric and it seems to be very confusing.Any help would be appreciated.
I'm going to be building a 5 ft wingspan glider. Can anyone tell me what motor, gearbox, prop, speed controller and battery set up would be good for climbing and also for the battery to last in flight please? Also as cheap as possible.
Cheers

Trev we are going to need just a little more info about your glider,, ie what is the projected weight and what kind of performance are you looking for, do you just want decent climbing or do you want a hotliner, I would imagine from you wing size something between a P-19 or 12 would get it done, I'm not sure I would go with the gear box as it would require more room and add weight that you may not want

Hi AJ,
Thanks for your reply.I have a towline glider of the same size and that weighs in at 1 kilo with standerd radio in it. So it will probably be approximately the same weight without the motor etc. I would like it to climb quick, vertical would be great so proberbly the hotliner rarther than just decent climbing.

Trev if I did my math right your looking at around 2 lbs, for vertical flight you are going to need alot of thrust, If the plane in question is not yet built it is going to be kinda tough to offer up a motor at this point as you also will need to know what kind of room you have to work with, you will definatly want a low KV motor to turn a large prop. Also you will likely be looking at using a 4 or 5 S lipo pack to get where you want to be for power, extended flight is going to depend on how you fly it once up there. My original thoughts of BP motor working is prob not going to give you what you want. Once you start building the plane and have some deminsions to offer, ask again and I'm sure you can get the answers you need
