Hi,
I am new to electric motors for my planes and I have no idea how to tell just what size motor or ESC to get for a couple of my planes that I would like to convert from fuel to electric. I was told that I should figure about 100 watts per pound Is this right? Please tell me that there is a way to figure out what size motor that I need for my planes? Thank you for your time and trouble.
I was also told that for a 1.5 pound (24 ounce) airplane, in order to get true 3D type performance, you need to be able to generate at least twice as much thrust as the plane weighs, so this would mean 48 ounces of static thrust or more. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Larry, Welcome to the Addiction.
Will need a lot more info from ya to give you some quality suggestions. Tell you what, drop by the Badius Owners Club, in the Park Flyers section. We fly everything gas or electric, fixed wing to heli, and micros to big uns. We have scratch builders, kiters, and quite a few experts on electrics. And we are probably the most strange bunch of fellows on the site.
Heck we even have our own flying field and none of us live anywhere near each other. Some of us are in foreign countries.
But anyhow, it's the ONLY forum that's about anything, flight related or not.
Stop by and somebody there will be more then willing to give you a hand.

We need details about the planes.
This discussion is specifically about choosing power systems for your planes.
