Default Looking for brushless combo for Mini-Mag

I have the stock 400 brushed motor on my Multiplex Mini Mag. I'm looking for good opinions on
what to buy for a brushless combo for this plane.

Brushless motor
ESC
Lipo battery
Prop

A good combo for speed would be a 2410-21 motor and 18 or 25 amp ESC a 1300 to 1500 3S lipo with a 7X4 prop

if you want more thrust than speed a 2410-12 with same ESC and lipo and a 10X3.5 prop should do the trick

personaly I think the first combo is the better as you will have good thrust and lots of speed
you can get the motor/ESC combo's for around 15.00

Thanks for the info AJ1202. Are you referring to the Tower Pro brushless motors?

Yes I was referring to tower pro motors
also hobby city has some little outrunners for like 6.00 that work great
only down side is sometimes their delivery time can be long, but the savings in $$ can be worth it if you order more than just a motor/ESC, other wise raidentech is a good place to get a decent deal

Would the Tower Pro motor have to be mounted on a stick mount
then for the Mini Mag? Or some other mount?

Higher quality, more expensive route:

MEGA 16/15/5 or 16/15/6 - same physical size of Permax 6v 400 brushed
APC 7x4 prop
3s 1500mAh 25C FlightPower
CC Thunderbird 36

I would like a brushless motor that drops right into the 400 carbon brushed
stock motor without having to do much modifying.
That Mega motor must be nice. But sure is expensive. The motor alone
cost what I paid for my Mini Mag, & that's not counting a brushless esc & lipo.
The lipos are very inexpensive now a days. Got any other recommendations
for a drop in brushless?

You could always find an inrunner that is similar in size. The Great Planes Ammo 24-33-2500 is close in size and weight. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLWX1&P=7

Most of the outrunners can be mounted in either a stick mount or with a firewall mount. They will generally be cheaper than an inrunner, and are geared toward turning a larger prop more slowly with good torque.

here is a link to a lot of minimag stuff. I am sure they will have info on different motors:

In my EasyStar I'm running a MEGA. It's a reliable and efficient motor. I usually hang out in the FE boat section as I race FE boats. I've rarely had a motor cost less than a boat hull or plane kit. I run MEGA's and NEU's.

If you want a similar sized motor look for dimensions of 28mm x 35mm or so. Kv should be 1200-1800 if you want to spin a 7x4 on 11.1v

I was looking at the motor mount on the Mini Mag last night. If it could be
set back a bit inside the fuselage. It would work great for a Tower Pro
motor. Otherwise the Tower Pro shafts seem longer than most other
shafts.

highflyer what I do is cut the shaft and use a prop adapter,I make the adapter sit right against the bell nut, this helps reduce the odds of the dreaded bent prop shaft on those not so perfect landings and it removes any vibration caused by the long shaft

Can anyone give me your opinion on the Multiplex brushless como pack?
It contains the Himax brushless motor, esc, prop & prop adapter.

I have heard from others that the Himax motor isn't that great.
