Is this a good set-up?

I reacieved a powered glider from a fellow club member. I am a total noob when it comes to electrics and I have pieced together what i think will work from HobbyKing. The glider is about 3lbs dry and calls for a 550-600 motor.

The only thing I see being an issue, is the battery. 1800mah isn't going to fly that setup for more than maybe 5 minutes. I would try to get something around at least 3000mah (30 - 40C) for it.

Hey , yeah I fly only electrics and I ve been flying nearly 10 years
.. You will seriously need a larger capacity lipo . like a 2600mah minimum up to 4000mah , you have the lift and wing loading is fine .. you have 78inch of wing a 3cell 4000mah will be nothing.. If you fit a 4000mah lipo you will be able to fly a whole afternoon on 1 pack if you can glide well and weather permits..

The motor and ESC are way too big. A 600 motor refers to a brushed motor that is in the 140 watt range, or more like a .06 glow engine. The motor you are looking at is equivilant to a .30 glow engine.
What you need is a brushless setup with about 15 or 20 amp ESC and a motor that draws about 120 watts.

As for the LiPo, one in 2000MaH should give you plenty of flying time, flying it up to altitude and letting it glide back down a couple of times. Get a 3 cell and it will have more than enough power. Don't forget to get a good charger and balancer. Get at least two battery packs.

Most 600's are good for 20-30A, so I'd think that 120W is far too little for a 3lb dry aircraft... even a "glider" needs at least 50W/lb and, better, 100W/lb or more.!

The 34-42 might be best but depends on how much weight is needed in the nose. Don't forget these planes were designed for heavy brushed motors and nicads. Putting brushless motors and lipo's in usually means lead up front too. The Turnigy Plush and Sentry esc's are better rated than the 1 you selected. I would go with a Plush 60a. For these motors you would need at least a 3s 2200mah of at least 20-30c, but as previously said, bigger would be better on both capacity (mah) and discharge (c rating)
If you can't get the clearance with the wires of the motor, you could try this http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...200kv_Inrunner, might help with balance too due to it's weight, as it's closer to an original brushed motor's weight.
Try and keep the kv of the motor low (1000kv mark) as you'll be able to swing a bigger prop which I find better for gliders.
