RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
Sorry to hear that. It happens here now and then.
Try the Norvel. I hear good things about it. Good luck and hope you get to fly soon. ORIGINAL: EFSIG-IMAC-E-learner Damm you'r lucky john, it's blowing a gale around here and i haven't had a fly in over 5 weeks. but i have a Zagi on the way, so i might be doing a bit of sloping after Chrismas, after i get my advanced trainer going. any idea what a good replacement for an OS10 might be? |
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
hehe john my mom went... "hey" hey" "hey" what are you doing!!! thats my car and when I landed shes like "WERE GOING HOME RIGHT NOW" lol dosent make sence ot me
|
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
tried to fly her today....... somethings wrong she wouldnt stay up..........all I got was a chipped wing and a scuffed nose
|
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
what should I do?
|
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
today got all new stuff......... white wing with U.S. Army decals..........extra rubberbands for wings..............new tail and a new landing gear.............gonna take her flying tommorow

RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
well, i've just had some of the best flights ever, and none of them on my trainer. first by building instructor gave me a fly on his "Park Stepp" slow flyer, and i loved that, then my flying instructor came and gave me a fly on his 11oz 7-cell glider, covered with lightspan. it is the most docile little thing i have ever flown. I can't wait for next saturday, cause by then i'll have my Zagi($50 from a toy shop with mixer) and micro RC submarine(from a local electronics shop called Jaycar). hope you all have a merry xmas

RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
Hi Pete. Sorry I cant always answer right away. Way to into other projects.
Take your time and think about everything that could make youy plane act like it is. You will figure it out. Let me know if I can help. Make sure you charged the battery. |
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
Hmmm Im dumb porbably because I was trying to fly in 27 MPH winds lol so...thanks john ill post todays report see if it was better...steady breeze of about 3 MPH
|
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
went flying today GREAT!...............Great great flight except for somones untethered dog that tried to grab it in the air and I landed it roughly chipping the wing a little with the prop. ****in' dog......anyways was right back up flying
|
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
Dogs can be anoying, especially when they follow the plane down on a landing approach.
|
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
oooo ya...........flew again today great!!! I love it............the canopy came off due to too much flexing how can I fix this?
|
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
If you have the rubberband inside, the canopy should not come off, but if it wants to fly open, you can attach the rubberband to the inside of the canopy and then just "chin strap" it around the front bottom of the plane. That is what I do.

RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
the hinge actualy broke
|
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
Oh,
I used a couple of small nylon tywraps to reattach the hatch when mine broke off. Easy to do. Some places sell them in orange so they even look pretty good. |
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
ah.....what about a small brass hinge? or would tie raps be better?
|
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
brass is heavy and brings no advantage. In fact its weight might work against you in a crash, ripping out of hte plane on impact.
Drill 4 small holes, put the tie wraps through, leaving some slack, and you have a tough arrangement that weights nothing. You an do it with tape as well, but the tape eventually starts to look ratty. However I used tape for months. |
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
Im gonna do that tonight.............................thanks...the tape fell off.................
|
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
a small nylon hinge and sliding catch is quite affective i have found, just get a bit of plywood, cut a little tab with enough room for a screw in one end and screw it just ahead of the canopy(or behind), ans when you want to seal the canopy, rotate the bit of plywood around so it's overlapping the canopy. but aeajr has a simpler, abd probablt just as effective soultion to your problem

RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
that is a good idea............I read this after I did the repair as Aejr showed
|
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
Glad to read your reports on the Aerobird. I just bought three for Christmas (for me and my two sons , 18 & 13). Did you have any flying experience before? Sounds like you got right into it. We are rank beginners. I suppose with a big field and no wind we could start with moderate power and some easy turns to get the feel of it. I could offer my plane for the 'trainer' so the boys don't crash theirs get all bummed out about flying. I'll look for more of your reports (and offer some of my own as soon as the wind dies down).

RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
hehe yeah................. I had no experience with rc aircraft before just a great enthusiasm. as long as your boys know the basics of flight the Aerobird is pretty straight foreword. Find a field bigger than you think you would need for the first flights so they can get the hang of it... It responds smoothly in sport mode but flys farther faster do to lack of control movement so one flight in that mode should be good for getting the a feel for it. Later I have taken the control throws down a notch and it flys great! Excelent for begginers because it is so durable and the bonus is the solid build parts you cna just replace withought rebuilding the plane. I have crashed mine and pounded it into the ground plenty and have about 30 flights in a 3 week period I have had the aerobird. I have also done loops and all the manuevers shown in the manuel and are done easily... going flying today.. glad you chose the Aerobird and be free to ask any questions about it I have not answered!

RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
LOVIN IT

RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
Pete
Still waiting for that video on your flight. |
RE: DFalpha FIRST AEROBIRD FLIGHT.
