05 or sp600?
What is the major difference other than size between an car type 05 or a SP600?.
Would one have more RPM or torque than the other?. I own both and I am finishing a F6F which was intended for gas but I really want to try the electric. (and succeed) |
05 or sp600?
05 and Speed 600 are two different names for the same motor, I believe. These motors are manufactured by Mabuchi, Sagami, or Johnson (I can't remember which) for other purposes. It just happens that they work relatively well in model aircraft.
05 is Master Airscrew Speed 600 is Graupner I hope you aren't going to try to fly this airplane by sticking a prop on one of these motors, and loading an old R/C car battery in the fuselage. You'll be disappointed. To do it right, you will need at least an 8 cell battery, and a gearbox. Not knowing what size plane you're talking about, I can't say exactly what you'll need. The motor definitely won't handle the power required to fly a .40-size glow plane. Hopefully this F6F is in the .15-.25 size range. |

The F6F has a 42" ws and without motor or battery auw is 1.5 lb.

Based upon some experience , skip the the entire Idea of putting a "Can" motor in your new F6F and spend the Money and buy a Brushless Motor. I think an Axi would be a perfect choice for a "Radial Engined" Plane. The last thing any of us want is for you to be unsuccessful. One of the things I like best about the Brushless Motors is they really don't "wear-out", so you buy one and you can use it for decades.
If you really don't want to spend the extra money , see if can find an Astro 05 Cobalt with a Gearbox, even used one is a lot better than a cheap 05 Can Motor. Jim B |

The 05 is a Mabuchi 540 and the Speed 600 is slightly bigger, a Mabuchi 550. There are several different S600s to choose from and Car motors are available in a huge range of specs from a very hot 10 turns to "stock" 27 turns. For your sort of plane I'd guess you'd do fairly well around 18-22 turns and a 2.5-3:1 gearbox on 8 cells.
But if you can afford it I'd go with Jim. It's hardly worth bothering with cheap motors in a nice plane like that. Steve |
