B24 4 engine Electric conversion???
I'm doing the above conversion and will be drawing approx. 40 amps from each of two batteries. I'm planning on running about 5 feet of 12 gauge power wire to power the two motors at 40 amps (20amps x 2). Given the short length of wire I'm assuming that 12 gauge will be enough copper.. Any experience to the contrary??
Thanks, Fred |

This chart will help you prove your thoughts. Remember to double the distance due to + & - wire.
Also double the motor lead length. 2 wires again. GOOD connections ARE most important. That is where most people get heating & a burned open wire. 1.59 divided by 1000 =.00159 ohms. X 10' = .0159ohms X 40 amps = .636 volts. I can live with that.....:) |
RE: B24 4 engine Electric conversion???
Cyclops,
Thanks for the wire chart. I did the numbers and this is what I came up with... 14 watt loss (300 watt load) for 6 feet 7 watt loss (300 watt load) for 3 feet 42 watts total loss for (1200 watt load, 4 motors) And I'm planning on running 2 inboard together and 2 outboard together... Thanks, Fred |
