Default B24 4 engine Electric conversion???

I'm doing the above conversion and will be drawing approx. 40 amps from each of two batteries. I'm planning on running about 5 feet of 12 gauge power wire to power the two motors at 40 amps (20amps x 2). Given the short length of wire I'm assuming that 12 gauge will be enough copper.. Any experience to the contrary??

Thanks,

Fred

This chart will help you prove your thoughts. Remember to double the distance due to + & - wire.
Also double the motor lead length. 2 wires again. GOOD connections ARE most important. That is where most people get heating & a burned open wire.

1.59 divided by 1000 =.00159 ohms. X 10' = .0159ohms X 40 amps = .636 volts.
I can live with that.....

Cyclops,

Thanks for the wire chart. I did the numbers and this is what I came up with...

14 watt loss (300 watt load) for 6 feet

7 watt loss (300 watt load) for 3 feet

42 watts total loss for (1200 watt load, 4 motors)

And I'm planning on running 2 inboard together and 2 outboard together...

Thanks,

Fred
