Default Ryobi Compression

I converted a Ryobi with bowman ring rexcel ignition and have run 10 litres through it.
Compared to my other Ryobi this one has failed to develope compression.
How long should it take to bed the ring in, it doesn't seem to be getting any better.
I used some emery on the cylinder with a light "hone" to help but it is not even close to what it should be.
Any ideas.

Frank Bowman recommends a very light sanding of the cylinder bore with 400 or 600 sandpaper.

If during the run in period I got it too hot could the ring loose its temper?
I could re set the piston ring as it does not have much drag in the bore like other engines.
