I just saw this ad in the RCU Market Place. It's a good deal!

That's a real nice conversion, but the guy whose selling it didn't paint it up all pretty. Are you close with the guy ? Maybe you could ask him why.

Besides, if someone really wants to make an engine "pretty", they would do what Kmot did to his ASP 400 radial. Polish the living snot out of it!

Couldn't find Kmot's polished engine, but found two in his garrery that are painted.

The cylinders are painted it seems... but everything else looks polished. I personally wouldn't paint any part of an engine still.. but thats just me.
Polished aluminum trumps painted anything in my book. Still sharp looking engines.
Av8tor - I assume you have a lathe and make all your own parts to do conversions?

Hi,
Yes, I make all my own parts. As to painting, that's right, I don't paint them because they then don't cool as well. If you absolutely must paint something, then use a very, very light coat of flat black paint. Most people don't realize it, but polishing also inhibits cooling.

When I was test running this one getting it ready to sell, I tried several props. (I ported the engine and installed a larger carb, free flowing exhaust, etc., in addition to rebuilding it.) I wasn't too surprised to get almost 8000 rpms on an APC 16 x 8 prop, but I WAS surprised to get 7000 rpms on a wide blade APC 18 x 6. Not the narrow pointy blade APC, but the real wide blade one. That's a lot of prop for a 21cc engine....
The cool thing about this particular model of Echo, is that it will hand start even though it is a magneto engine. The older aluminum flywheel Echos won't hand start very easily. Of course this could easily be changed over to CDI igntion too.
Anyway, it is still for sale.
