Has anyone converted a tecumseh 98cc engine? Pros/Con? Tips?

Well since there were no replies, I guess this has never been done sucessfully. Well, I'm up for the challenge. Gary (flyncrazy) has given me the inspiration to make it happen. So here it goes. Pulled the 3/21 MTD snow blower out of the shed and started pulling it apart. It has a shaft out the back as well as the front. It also has a compression release valve. I cut the back shaft off, cut the
Stand-offs for the mag off, and removed the the flywheel. I am going to use a cdi set-up for ignition. The bowl type carb Is being replaced with a WJ-71 walbro diaphragm carb. I also removed the excess metal on the front cover. First pic shows size comparison to a Homelite 30cc.

Nice work so far. I'm curious,,,it seems the PTO shaft that you shortened is the side that turns counter clockwise. I decided against converting a Tecumseh TC300 because the engine turns clockwise from the flywheel side. Any further progress on this project?

Short answer is yes, but it may have a slightly reduced lifespan. It probably wouldn't be enough to notice in an RC plane especially with cd ignition. Nice looking engine, what's it going into?What's the compression, and port timing?

I don't see why you couldn't mount the engine backwards. Might have to use a custom designed airframe (something like a giant stick), but it's doable. I was told by a small engine repair shop a Tecumseh snowblower engine is good for about 4500 rpm.

I already cut the shaft off the back, so will not be mounting it backwards. On the RPM, in a airplane configuration with a prop, I hope it will do alot better than 4500 rpm.

What kind of scavenging does that engine have?
