I was just given a leafblower that has "John Deere Consumer Products" on the label. Is it worth trying to convert? the backplate would be easy to add a motor mounting plate. Haven't had a chance to look at the mag set-up yet and will probably need some sort of prop shaft adapter. Says it is 25cc. It will start and try to run up, then backfire and quit. Is it worth the trouble?

My JD blower is Homelite 25cc weedie just a different end attachment with black and red engine case. Lots of conversion info on this site and web. Your cost is right; you'll know more once you get it torn down, probably just need cleaning up and a carb rebuild kit (walbro or zama) I have 3 of them running, one converted.

Thanks for the reply. It is a red/black color combo. I am out of town and will have to wait til I get home to really work on it, but the fellow was going to toss it out. I can toss it out for him if it doesn't work out. :-) The sticker has a couple of numbers like UTO plus some numbers and YSH plus numbers. Carb has some plastic pieces where the jets would normally be. Might be some sort of preset to try to idiot-proof the jets.

Sounds like the same. EPA put the covers on the Hi/Lo screws and a box cutter/ razorknife will remove them for cleaning out any dirt that might be lodged in the orfice. GO for it.
