Default Gas 4 stroke

This winter I'm planning to experiment with one of those mini gas 4 strokes, Honda, Ryobi, or Stihl but not sure which one to use. I've read the post but still not sure. I have a honda gx31 in a trimmer that is a great little engine. But the Stihl looks to be more compact and lighter. Honda also has a gx50, but it's hard to get any real dimension on anyone.

I know, why waste the time, just go with a two stroke. But the reliablity and exhaust sound of a 4 stroke are just to tempting.

Once you all help me decide on the motor, I will mod one of joe boyd's belt drives to it to experiment with scale 3 or 4 adjustable blade props.

I know, sound like a pipe dream. The combo will be heavy but hopefully the torque of the 4 stroke and reduction can turn a good size prop with interesting exhaust sounds.

Thanks
Steve

I will be converting a new Shindaiwa 4 stroke as soon as it gets here...The factory claims it will not destruct turning over 10,000 rpm..It uses 50-1 fuel with no oil reservoir, so it will run in any attitude...Same technology as the YS 4 strokes...We'll see..

Any info on the honda 50cc? Any one running the Stihl or Honda?

Is the honda 50cc the same type of oil system and carb as the 30cc?

I talk with a Stihl dealer today and he had a stihl 4mix power unit as he called it, but it was pricey, like $300.

He claimed he would speak to his factory rep on just an engine.

Thanks

How about change the carb then? I haven't found any info regarding the oil system in the GX50?

Did you check out the torque curve on the Honda 50cc? It torque peaks at a little over 4000rpm. This thing is a lugger and must love a big prop.

if you can somehow convert an oil slinger from a 31 for the 50 that would be just gravy, but as it is its a standard oiler like the other GXes.
