Default Hall Effect IC PART NUMBER

Does anyone have a manufacture's part number for a Hall sensor that they are utilizing with their CDI?

Thanks Ralph for providing me with that P/N,

Yesterday, while I was searching the web I came across this fellow’s Homepage, [link=http://home.kendra.com/ronblack/]Ron Black [/link]who had some [link=http://home.kendra.com/ronblack/ugn3020t.htm]Hall Effect Digital Switch [/link]P/N # UGN 3020T for sale.
This fellow has a vast collection of electronic components that would come in handy for anyone looking up part numbers from circuits that were designed a few yrs ago. The UGN 3020T is the same sensor, which was employed in Floyd Carter’s non-capacitive ignition circuit that was published by Model Builder back in May 88. Floyd is also the same fellow who designed the capacitive discharge ignition circuit that was published by RCM back in Dec 80 and fellow RCU member Aneat [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_743937/mpage_1/key_aneat/anchor/tm.htm#743937]posted a link [/link]to a PDF file copy of this circuit. The construction article from MB stated this sensor was reliable with an ignition power source consisting of 3 NiCads (3.75 V) even though the specs has it listed at an operating voltage of 4.5 to 24 Volts.

ALLelectronics also has a similar hall effect switch:

I get rechargeable batteries from them once in a while. I'll pick up a few of these for spares next time I place an order.

the 3030t will not work,I have some they require you to reverse the pole on the magnet to reset the switch

Thanks Ken. I scanned over the spec sheet but didn't catch that.

Hey, check this one out!
http://www.cherrycorp.com/english/sensors/mp1021.htm

You can buy this and two other variations of it from http://www.newark.com/

Looks to me as if it would be a great way to mount to a bracket overhanging the magnet on the prop shaft. Much better, I think, than gluing it on with epoxy (vibration would loosen it up eventually, don't 'yall think?)

A Hall sensor mounted correctly with 5 minute epoxy will not vibrate out, it takes heat from a small butane torch and an icepick to get one out if it goes bad, which is almost never....
The bracket has a 1/4 inch hole milled out in it just deep enough so that the hall sensor is flush with the top surface. A .200 hole is drilled 90 degrees to the 1/4 inch hole for the wires to come out..Filled with epoxy it never comes loose....NEVER

A quick update for anyone that was contemplating on contacting [link=http://home.kendra.com/ronblack/]Ron Black[/link] who had a hand full of Hall Effect sensors P/N # UGN 3020T for sale, he sold the last one and no I wasn't the last guy to purchase them, someone else beat me to it.

Hall effect devices are available from Jerry E. Howell, 3980 Becket Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80906. Ordered several from him recently and the one I am currently using works well. He also has a very reasonably priced transistor switching kit that includes the Hall effect device and the rare earth magnet. He also has Modelectric coils available. Jerry is very quick filling the order and shipping. Seems like an overall good guy to do business with! He has a web site with order forms and the parts he has available. Sorry I don't have the address but if you can't find it wire me and I will find it for you! Good Luck!

I am contemplating building the rcm C D Ignition circuit. What changes have to be made/added to the circuit to enable a hall sensor to be used instead of points?

Thanks

looking at the schematic i would toss everything that's right of the SCR. the + and - then go to the hall sensor and the sensors output goes to the SCR. don't know the specs of the SCR but a resistor may be needed between it and the sensor.

Thanks Dave. I'm in Australia and can source the components ok. I have found a hall sensor but don't have any specs for it yet so I don't know if it will be suitable.
