Default Question to Pro's about the props :)

Good evening fellow modelers.

I trully enjoy reading threads about conversion engines.Thats just too cool !

I got a question though.Question about props.Do you guys balance them? And is it critical to have a well balanced prop??
I saw a thread in glow engines but there was nothing about big props.
And if you do balance, what balance tool do ya use?
Thanks

Mitty

Balance is important regardless of the engine used. Imbalance causes vibration that can cause premature wear on servo's and engine bearings. I've been able to balance props up to 18" on the G.P magnetic balancer. There are balancers that will handle the bigger sizes.

The high piont from robart I think is out'a production but if you can get one on ebay its the best there is. I use a cheap knock off from dubro called the Tru-Spin. It works well and has several differnt ways you can use it. This allows me to balance the smallest prop, engine mag, and even my helicopter's main and tail rotors and drive gears. And yes, you really need to balance everything possable that rotates. Piper

I balance all mine. I have the TF magnetic, which is good for smaller props and very lightweight stuff. I use the DuBro TruSpin much more. Balancing the prop is even more improtant on these conversion engine, because that big ol' prop can be quite a distance from the front bearing. This is unlike the little glow engines with the prop hub right in front of the bearing.
