I would like to know how to tell if i have a long or long shaft on a ryobi 31cc wacker engine so i can order the right prop hub for it . Also the kit i am ordering i can get a 2''OR 3! engine mount which mount is the most common. Any input would be a big help

The above link shows a 31cc short shaft. The pic included with this response shows the short shaft without the flywheel and the mounting plate still attached. The other pic is the long shaft.

If your Ryobi is still a weed whacker and you cannot turn the cutter head with turning the engine over, its definitely a short shaft. The long shaft ones had a clutch on them. The real cheap ones are rarely long shaft.
By theory it's bossible to make a engine with a shorter prop hub with the long shaft version. Thye long shaft is usually 3/8" whereas the short shaft is 5/16". The flywheels for the long shaft have a larger taper in them than the short shaft ones. But you can cross them from one to the other but its not such a good practice.
The 3" mount gives you more room around the carb but the 2" mount lets the engine not hang out so far and cause a nose heavy plane.
Enjoy,
Jim
