What can be cut off this conversion?
#1
Good evening everyone.
I started conversion a couple days ago .This engine came from weedeater that had a bc24w written on it.I assume it is a 24 cc engine,am I wrong?[:-]
It has a pretty good compression and engine walls seems to have no scratches, thus in a good shape.I wanted to ask you guys what can be safely cut off this engine and how to mount it?Should i leave some casting alone and drill some holes in it or what can i do?
Please advice.

If you are going to use electronic ignition, which I recommend, cut off everything you possibly can to save weight. If you are going to use the original magneto, you will need to leave enough metal to safely mount the coil. Be careful, as some have gone to a lot of trouble to trim it all down, and then had their coil mountings flex and/or crack later. Electronic ignition is the best both in terms of weight and engine handling, starting, etc.
Good luck,

Please note similar question from kiv and reply from heliair on 10/15/03.
(Looking thru the index-log, I notice some questions are repeated by new
members.) Neat job of trimming crank-case.
Has anyone tried adding a shake-brace from cylinder head to magneto bracket?
Also, I wonder if the magneto and a large muffler would block the exhaust
side of the cooling fins. The flywheel blower and shroud might have forced
air behind the magneto better than the blast from the propeller?
Keep on convert'n!
