HI:
MAY BE YOU THOUGHT I WAS POSTING THE RIGHT WAY TO SEAL THOSE NASTY SLOTS IN CILYNDER, I wish i could!!
Instead, I´m asking a way to seal them. I saw a post here when somebody was about to "plug them" from the outside, but want to know if anybody have some knowledge about the pros and cons of this method or if would exist some tested procedure for that.
Please do not tell me to go to ebay, outdoordistributors or harborfreight, that would be the easy way, and since now a friend "remembered" he has no one, but two!!! lathes in the backyard at home...my engines are crying for some internal improvement.
If there is no way to acomplish this safely. i would try simply find out and buy those old cylinders with out the slots, but seems hard to find, don´t you think.
Tatolazo.

As I've mentioned on this forum before, I plugged the decompression slots in my Ryobi 28cc with JB Weld after undercutting like a dentist would do for a filling. Still hanging in there after a couple dozen flights. Good for a few hundred RPM.

I dropped the Ryobi cylinder in my 1/4 scale Cub last night to check on the JB weld plugged decompression slots. It's still hanging in there OK, looks the same as when I first put it in. I haven't had a chance to fly the plane as much as I'd wished, but it did have several tank-fulls through it. The motor is down a bit (200 RPM) from what it could do in the early spring, but that might be due to the warmer, humid ambient. It still hauls the 17 pound Cub well enough that I think I'll build floats for it this winter.
