Default 50cc? What saw and where to get one??

Hello I have had a poulan 46cc saw, but have heard they also make a 50cc. I would like to get a good 50cc engine running that is pretty light. Anyone know what Poulan saw number I should look for, and is there anyother brand other than echo that makes a good conversion 50cc engine? Thanks fellas!

i may be wrong but i think the larger poulans have a two piece case and separate jug, not the nice, light jug with a bottom cap like the 46 or echo 50

That's correct. The 54 and 60cc Poulans have a big crankcase that includes the tanks. There's a lot of cutting. The case is held together with screws that are fore - aft oriented. So, a mounting plate has to be made. They make a nice engine but it's a lot of work. If you have the work done, there's a guy on here that does a nice job for around $250+ range. It's not cheap but this includes the electronic battery ignition conversion.

The 60cc was discontinued in the previous century. I don't know if the 54 is still around? It was last year. They pretty much had the same case. There were many different models of these. My 60cc is a 3750 type II but later types were 54's.

Enjoy,

Jim

The Echo 50cc chainsaw engine would be a good choice. A while back I saw quite a few of these offered on Ebay. Same engine as the BME 50 so you can probably get parts (prop hub, muffler, etc.) from BME. Then again, maybe not.

if looking for an echo 50 to convert and you want it to be like the BME then be sure it's the CS-510 model.

the older CS-500 and CS-5000 models have the case as part of the saw body and require lots of cutting and fabrication of a backplate mount.
