stock magneto timing on Homelite 25
Can anyone tell me what the timing is set at on the Homelite, Ryobis, and other magneto weedeater engines? I know that the electronic ignitions want you to set the timing at 28 degrees or so, but is the magneto also set to fire the plug at this setting? (28 degrees) Just when does the mag "fire the plug" on a magneto ignition? When I turn the flywheel on my Homelite and Ryobi engines, the trailing magnet is about about 1/4 way past the "outside" steel portion of the coil at top dead center.

RE: stock magneto timing on Homelite 25
I've moved a C-H all around and tried different timing advances. There's not enough difference between the stock magneto setting and 28 degrees to get excited about. It's hardly worth the effort of filling the coil mounting holes to advance it.
You will need a timing light to measure the magneto. The C-H, you can hear it click at the fire point.
Some very high compression engines will really bite you at 25 or 30 degrees.
Enjoy,
Jim
