Default McCulloch 38 for $80

McCulloch 38 for $80

A McCulloch saw was on sale at Home Depot for $80. The box was marked 35 but the nameplate indicated 38cc. It appeared to be a new saw in an old style box. Part number was MS1635.

Although its been done, the Mac saws are not as handy at being converted some other brands. I was at Lowes about 6 wks ago and all the Poulans were actually 42s though there were other sizes on the boxes. But they need battery ignition. Some were $99.

Enjoy,

Jim

Have you converted your McCullock 38cc yet? I just got a McCulloch 38cc conversion and I plane on using it on a Great Planes giant Stick. How do you like this engine?

Thanks

I was hoping you would have already flown this engine. I was looking for some good feed back from someone other then the guy I bought mine from. He says this engine will spin a 18x6 prop at 8000 RPM. If that is so I believe it should work real well in my Great planes Giant Stick I have.

What do you think?

The numbers seem optimistic. I would bench run the engine with an 18-6 and an 18-8 and check RPM. Usually some bench time will be necessary for familiarization.

Sparse information for other 38’s exists at:

Recollection is the Giant Stick is light and the engine should fly it well.
