Anyone Familiar with Jonsered 36 CC
Have received a fairly clean Jonsered 2036 turbo chain saw. Wondering if anyone has converted one of these. I'm reluctant to tear it down if it isn't a good prospect for conversion because it is still a good chainsaw. On the other hand, its really hard to fly even a real good chainsaw. Aero Nut says it may actually be a hesqavera motor.
Appreciate any input.

Hello,
I stopped in to a small Jonsered dealer not to long ago to investigate these jewels. Luckily the mechanic was a young fellow who offered lots of information. He was more than happy to talk about the saw engines as conversions. He told me that almost all saw smaller than 50cc were "drop out of the saw engines". Meaning they are not part of the case, so they would be good easy conversions. He did not say if the ignition was bolted to the engine though. It would be worth a look to see if it was.
I think they run Maule cylinders.

Thanks, Twostroker. I'm good at dropping things out of the case. I'll get out the screwdriver, some metric sockets and my good ole ball peen hammer and have a look. I'll let you know what happens.

Hi danorris,
Haven't looked at a 36cc but have converted two 40cc Jonsered chainsaw motors. Great little motors. I used DA electronic ignitions on mine. Reasonably easy conversion other than the carby mounting. On the chainsaw the carby is mounted to a large plastic housing which bolt to the cases. Then there is a rubber tube connecting the carby to the engine. I just cut the plastic housing down and screwed a couple of flat aluminium stays between the engine and the housing to support it. Works ok. You may be able to make it out in the pics.
Cheers Tim

Thanks for the photos, Tim. Looks like a very clean, light conversion. I can see the straps you made to hold the carb on. I'll check in with you on the ignition etc. as soon as I get this saw torn down.

buck1856,
Yes I rotated the carb for straight throttle link. Made aluminium plate (3mm) to go between carb and plastic housing. Bolted ali plate to housing. Then carby to plate in different position. Hope you can understand that.
captinjohn,
I have only had converted motors so I can't really compare to a DA, BME, Zenoah but with the electronic it's as smooth as you could get it. It runs sweet
