Thanks to this site I was able to modify a 25cc weed eater and scratch build a plane.
The engine ran ok but at -2 degrees it was hard to tweek in. The plane is 84 inch wing
and 12lbs 2oz cost under $200.00 plane engine radio Thanks Ron

Cold weather is very hard on things. Be carefull....that ice is bad to hit also. You will have more parts than when you started to build it. Super nice job on building it. If you get a chance ....give us some photos and details how you built it. Thanks Capt,n

RE: my first weed motor scratch built plane
The plane is a square fuse useing ply for the sides and balsa top and bottom. The wing rib shape is from a dynaflite mustang.
I cut most of the fuse with a carpender square and rule.Any radius were made with a 1 gallon paint can. This plane was built in a week and coverd in tower cote.I wanted it cheap and built fast. This plane flys just like my dynaflite mustang landings look like 5mph with no stall.

I used an old weed eater brand. It mite be 10 or 15 yrs old.At first it did not run smooth but a new spark plug and carb with 2 needle valves fixed that.

I'm impressed!! That is very nice. What a smooth runway. Those big flat areas do make it nice, not having to align to a set centerline. Thanks for sharing.
"a week for the plane construct", SO this is Tues by Friday we expect some pics of the skis installed and leaving tracks! Just kidding but the friction factor on that ice....

Geminitool, very nice workmanship! You must be very pleased with your efforts to say the least.Yes it does kind of look like a Cessna 195 like one of the other guy's had mentioned.I was wondering if you could give us a shot of the business end of this beauty to admire your engine conversion efforts?By chance, did you draw up plans for this one? With all the newly converted Homie 25's out there looking for a home, this would sure make a great first project for all those guy'sjust getting started in conversions to "get their feet wet" on.Cheap and quick.Does it get any better than that I ask you?

How do you like the Haas Machine's? I have four Mori Seiki's at home and i do some of my conversions on them. Let me know what kind of hop ups you do to the homey 25 i might try and do the same.
Thanks

RE: my first weed motor scratch built plane
Thanks for the info on the machine. We have thought about getting one but we bought our first Mori a few years ago and have not changed brans yet. The Mori's are very pricy but they are very fast and very acurate and reliable machines. I've not really done any hop ups on the machine but i have made a carb adapter for my poulan 46cc motor on it.
Thanks again

RE: my first weed motor scratch built plane
I guess every story needs an ending.I had radio interferance maybe from the plug. I switched from a cj14 to a easy start
5846. It was in level flight and was just flying away and then went in to a dive.I thought it was going to china. So i will be
rebuilding.I guess im lucky it came down[]

RE: my first weed motor scratch built plane
I'm sorry to see that . Did you use a resistor plug(it should have an R in the numbers on plug)?
Did you range check the plane with it running a full throttle? I'm working on a plane now it's a super stick 60 i put a 21cc shindaiwa weedy motor on it. I have not got it quite ready to fly but i might have it by the weekend. Not sure if i can test it the weather has been a little bad for the south this year. By the way it sure looks cold there.

RE: my first weed motor scratch built plane
I am real sorry to see that happen. I know the feeling all to well. You know after you get back home and sort out things...its could always be worse. Well in most cases. One time I was flying and a bunch of firetrucks went past the field and all of a sudden my palne dove strait down. It hit full bore in a soft sandy spot. I had to pull hard with both hands to get it out. The engine was buried 10 inches in the ground. The plane was shot(a 40 size) but the radio and the engine was ok. It was a Supertiger that lived to fly a lot more!!!!

RE: my first weed motor scratch built plane
Oh Well ....
Just ordered more wood and ready to do it agian.I had enough time to fly it and make changes on the new one.
this one will have a 31cc.the 25cc was trashed from the crash. As for the cause of the crash.I think it was the spark plug.
I will post some pics of the constuction. I have to warn you guys that im in no clubs and have been flying for 2 years so if it looks like im doing something crazy thats why This project has been fun. Im hoping to have a gas 3d plane soon.

RE: my first weed motor scratch built plane
oh sorry what pain causes the plane crash after a lot of work... but we still have the eyes and the hands so we can make another plane. Now is my question did you use a resistor plug, is the pushrod from the servo to the trotlle metalic, o may be the old conection failiure (betwen the fingers and the brain)???
I hope you rebuild this nice airplane to put it again in the sky.
