Default My REAALLY big gas conversion...

Hi guys,

Check out my big gasser! Kioritz 23.6cc on the left, a Fox .45 in the middle for size comparison, and then the monster!

I wonder if anyone out there can guess what it is.

All I have to do is machine it for higher compression, port it out a bit, install a bigger carb, gut out the muffler....

Just kidding!

It's off an ultralight, I would bet.

You might want a 200 ft wingspan plane for that motor.

Wow that is serious! I’ll bite what’s the displacement? Found a piece of oak to use for the firewall and a 2 by 6 to carve a prop.

It's 460cc. I had it made for me for a 500% scale Big Stick. NOT!

How about a chota (sp) off of a weedhopper ultralite. Looks like one I replaced with a 28 hp rotax gear reduction and then called it a treetopper. It ran on breaker points with coil and flashlite batteries with two spark plugs and a switch to change the timing and the plug to start it then switch to the second one to run. Turned as I remember a 38-4 prop.

That's exactly right DandGMartin!!

John Chotia, the designer, had the idea to build a motor with large displacement and very mild port timing so it could turn a big prop slow and be more efficient than the motors in use at the time. (early 80's) It is a pretty interesting motor actually. All custom castings of course, but designed around as many existing parts as possible. It uses an 88mm piston and rings from a Volkswagen, Ford axle bearings for the main bearings, and Chrysler points and condensor. This is a brand new one I stumbled across and bought just for the heck of it. I flew with one in a Weedhopper ultralight many years ago. I replaced the original Tillotsen carb with a Mikuni and gained about 500 rpms. Flew pretty well then...

Take care,

Hey! I used to fly a Quicksilver MX with a 377 Rotax. I had too much fun with the thing and It was getting a little dangerous. So I sold it and went back to RC.
