Default Need help identifying Poulan engine

I pulled this engine out of a Poulan saw that was in the scrap pile at the small engine shop. It did not have the pull start on the case so I do not even know what the saw is. I tried looking up the part numbers that are on the jug and crankcase, but did not find them.
In case you cannot read the numbers: crankcase 530028706 Jug 530-037256

I also have a Stihl that I have no clue what it is. Any ideas?

To do a search on Google, Stihl 311Y pops up all over the place.

311Y is a number that appears on all recent Stihl saws on compliance label. The joke is that morons on the internet will ignore the big model number on the top of the saw and list the saw as a model 311Y. We've seen every model of Stihl saw called a 311Y .

Enjoy,

Jim

The Poulan has the coil attached to the cylinder. There was only one of the engines from 33 to 46 cc that had the coil on the cylinder?

Enjoy,

Jim

The Poulan 46 doesn't have the coil attached to the cylinder, it was attached to the plastic case? That's why everyone uses C-H ignition on them?

Enjoy,

Jim

the 46cc has the coil on the cylinder and the oval carb adapter , the 33 & 42 have a bolt on carb adapter and coil mounted on the case .

Thanks for the info. I thought it was about a 46cc since it is real close in size to the 54cc I have. I thought the 46cc had vertical fins on the top of the jug? I tried looking up the part numbers and never found them. What saws had the 46 in them? If I can get the model # I can research the part numbers. I have not found a reverse part lookup online yet.

I have not really looked at the Stihl yet. It has good compression and the piston looks good. I think the crankcase is built into the body of the saw though. It looks like a thirty-something cc.

The engine in the picture is a 46 with open bearings and a seal on each end of the crank..There is another 46, identical Huskqvarna crank, different case..The case on the other has numbers on the bottom--530-049794 and 3254...the bolt pattern on the second case is wider to accomodate the different bearings used..the crank seals are part of the bearing and completly enclose the bearing, making a wider bolt pattern necessary due to the larger diameter bearing...the cases are otherwise the same...
