Homelite 45cc Electronic Ignition Conversion
I converted a Homelite 45cc chain a year ago and am thinking about converting it to electronic ignition. RCIGN doesn't do them and C&H doesn't have a kit for the engine. Has anybody added electronic ignition to their 45cc? Pictures would be appreciated.

RCIGN hasn't done any and works mainly on Zenoahs and 3Ws. C&H hasn't done any either, but he is willing to try. I was just checking to see if anyone has done one.

You don´t need to be an engineer of the N.A.S.A. to make this work
CH has the complete instuctions at the web site and www.hpignitions.com.ar also yopu can see one picture at :

For those of you reading this post, in the late model Homelite 45 there are different versions with two different bearing styles and the latest one has a rubber boot for carb attachment which will need a special part to attach the carb.
The big problem in this thread is the manufacture of a front hub and sensor bracket for the electroic ignition. The rest of the work is already done?
Enjoy,
Jim

platero,
Thanks for the links to the web site, they will be very useful. Your comment " You don´t need to be an engineer of the N.A.S.A. to make this work", is stated differently in this country. "You don't have to be a rocket scientist to make this work". Either way I agree with you, the problem is with the mechanical hardware and getting it made. I don't have real good access to a machine shop to make the hub.
I've been to Buenos Aires 3 or 4 times for work and enjoyed the visits. We stayed in the downtown area, but worked at the 3M plant in Hurlingham. I hope your economy is doing better.
w8ye,
After talking to C&H, it sounds like most of the work is in the hub and sensor bracket, I was hoping some one either sold those parts or had pictures. As you say, the rest is easy. Platero's links are a big help.
Thanks.

Talk to C&H. The hub they make for the 25 CC homelite will fit the 45CC homelite, because the flywheels are identical. I made a mounting adaptor to go across the bottom front crankcase bolts, a la the picture from another poster above for another brand of wnginw. It's not hard. Kinda busy right now, but I'll try for pix in about two weeks.

Thanks for the pictures and answers. It looks like the conversion isn't very difficult particularly since the hub from the 25cc will fit the 45cc engine.

Have not pulled engine out of saw yet but thought that it might be possible to just extend one (or both) of the engine mount bracket(s) forward and attach a 'L' channel to it and drill a hole for sensor. Then determine where to drill for magnet on hub.
And if you want it cleaner on the front you might consider the rear.

Mike;
That is too cool. I am in process of conversion also. I would like to see your finished product on the electronic conversion.
Edit. I think I can see all the equiptment installed. Do you sell those?

Yeah I thought it was rather nice as well. A fellow RCU nut was kind enough to take the pic of the back of his FPE 1.4 , which is an Echo engine. I had wondered for some time just how to get the sensor and magnet mount in that space!!!
I bet Ralph's rear mounted ignitions are just as compact. OK I admit, I was sorta hoping it might entice him to share a pic of his handy-work on the Zenoahs. []
For you fellas that have yours out of the saws, how much would much does the crank threads for starter extend behind the case? Would a bracket on the rear portion motor mount work on the 45 Homelite. I realize the mounts are horizonal on each side coming off the engine.
First one to post a pic of a rear mounted elect. ignition on home 45cc wins a round of .......

Ask and you shall receive
Unfinished G62 conversion..Crank cut off flush with the seal...Mount made from 4" bar stock, back plate with ignition circuit..
A case without the mount, source coil mounting not cut off yet....
