The right tool?

I want to bore out the hole in a adapter that is on a Homelite engine between carb and engine. The material is kinda of a hard looking plastic. The hole is about 1/2 inch now and has to be about 1/8 inch bigger. Is it best to drill...grind ....or use a end mill and feed the end mill real slow. Only got one chance to do it, without cracking it out? Any Ideas???? Thanks Capt,n

Yep. Paint it with a magic marker, scribe the new diameter, and sand to the mark. Bingo, and nice and smooth.
Say Capn'... If you are going to get near or into the pulse hole, you can just fill it with epoxy or JB Weld. Then run an external pulse line to the carb. Sometimes I also get close to the recess for the bolt down screws. I make a little dam, build it up with JB Weld, sand it off flat at the mounting surface, and then use a smaller headed mounting screw. That gives me more "meat" to grind to, or into, as the case may be.

I am going to use a big SuperTiger Carb. I may use pressure from exhaust or use some kind of pump, if need be. I may make a place to get pressure/pulse from the small hole you talk about...just in case I need it. Thanks for the tips. You engine people are GREAT!!!!

I just bored out a couple to 5/8" the other day. First beveled the edge with a swiss file. Then I put it in the vise and used thr drill press to drill it out to 9/16". Beveled the edge again and drilled it to 5/8" with no problem. Clean the bore up with some 240 wet or dry, then dressed the gasket surfaces with sandpaper on a large piece glass. If you do the trister heatdam (part number PS04357) you will have to fill the open wells with JB Weld first. When done the JB will be exposed in places in the bore. Works great.

Man....there should be more hours in a day!!!! Had to work on several had to do NOW projects. Now I got to get things ready for a old time engine show. WOW !!! I will let you guys know when I get her going at last. Then there is the New YS 1.40, I got to get going for a friend!!! Regards Capt,n

I bored mine out with a boring head in a milling machine. It worked great and it was pretty smooth on the inside. I bolted the carb mount down to a piece of Aluminum flat bar and put it in the vise,then i bored the hole out.
