Default McCullochs 38 vs Zenoah G38

Looking at buying a good strong 38cc gas engine for my older 1/4 scale Cap 231. Was wondering which engine to go with, I can get a newly conversioned McCulloch 38 for around $175 or I can spend a bit more and buy a G38 for about $275. $100 diffrence is quite a bit to spend if the both of these engines are close to the same when it comes to performance. Has anyone delt with these two engines and which one would you recommend.

Thanks
Shawn

Go to Sears or look on Ebay. You can get a 42cc Sears (Poulan) or a true Poulan for less than $100.00. Sears has an area where they sell customer returns. Picked up a Sears saw with a 42cc engine for $70.00. Bought a hub, muffler, and CH ignition and have less than $280.00 invested. Turns a MA 18/8 at just over 8000 RPM on 50:1 Amsoil Dominator. My son fly's the engine in his SIG Extra 300 and it has incredible verticle pull. Good luck.

Go with the Poulan 42, 46, or a Homelite. The McCulloch chains saws are not used very often for model engines.

Enjoy,

Tim,

Did you change the stock carb on teh Poulan 42??? Mine has the two line setup and I've had a little trouble getting it to suck fuel. I have tried both lines individualy and blocked the other.

Thanks,

Hi,
I seen the add for the Mac 38 and 8,000 is better then the G-38 performance at the this site http://www.rcfaq.com/rpmstats/rpmbycc2.htm##24
I seen a slightly used Mac 38cc being offer by the same guy for $135. I don't know if he still has it. He also has a video of it flying a stick design with authority.

The purge (return) line on the carb must have a pump or check valve or be closed off. The engine will suck air through this line if the end is left open to the air.

The fuel line is the one that goes to the pump side of the carb.

Enjoy,

Jim
