Here is a link to Stihls comparison chart.

http://www.stihl.us/chainsaws/comparison.html

The old saws started with a 0 such as 044. The new stuff starts with what the second number use to be.

Such as 440.

If you study the chart you should be able to figure it out.

How did you get the carb to fit the 041 and still have room for the exhaust to fit, I have a 041 engine sitting in front of me and the exhaust port and the carb port are on the same side of the cylinder very close together, one is just a little lower than the other.

My mistake...I ASSumed it was an 041 from the bore....A further search in the book shows that after serial # 6111990 the 028 was made with a 44mm bore..It's an 028, 47cc...Very impressive, it thinks it's a DA 50

Just to clear this up, this is a Stihl 031, 59cc, 3.6 cu. in. engine, The reason I know this is my engine he converted. I like this engine because it has the same exhaust port and bolt pattern as the DA 50 so any muffler for a DA 50 will fit this engine, Great job on the engine I just got it today, thanks Dean

I looked in my book again, it says the 031 is 48cc, 3.2 cu. in...Whatever it is, it runs really good....

Does it have a transistorized magneto or electronic ignition?

Good morning gentlemen, it seems that there are some very knowledgable Sthil folks here so I will ask a question, I have just finished converting a Super 045 that my brother purchased new over twenty years ago. The rings were remade for me by the gentleman in NM so I know it is a 54mm bore and I measured 38mm stroke using a machinist rule and eyeing it against the edge of the spark plug hole. My calculation shows 87cc but that seems a weird number. does anyone know the official size of this thing? I ran it last week using the original muffler and have yet to decide what to use on the plane I am building for it.

The chainsaw book says it's a model 045, 87cc..Should be a strong one A 24 -10 prop should work well....
