Default 21cc Trimmer Power

Would you guys say that a 21cc gas trimmer would work in most planes designed for a 1.20 size four-stroke glow engine. I have the engine converted and was looking at airplanes to use it on. I just want to know if this would be a good comparison. I know it is not the best engine. I get it to top out at 8,000 with 16x6.

I have an Echo 23.6 in my Balsa USA Eindecker 90. The motor came out of a used blower and runs fine for it's age. Flys the big Eindecker just fine. I have a 21cc Echo trimmer motor with CH ignition I am finishing for a Seagull Models Edge 540. I figure it ill fly pretty well but won't be a rocket or an extreme 3-D plane. Good sport aerobatics should be decent though. It is a test for me and a few guys at the field to see how well we can do with the smaller gas engines. If this one is OK then the next one I am trying in this plane is a Toro 25. Same mounting pattern as the Echo to boot.

The "Weed Eater" brand trimmer 21 has small conservative ports and mild timing. It works great as a weed whacker but doesn't make the best model airplane engine. It's power is more like that of a 60 size engine. Would be great on a Telemaster Senior if you shortened the nose some? I got 7000 rpm with a 14-8 prop and I had a Homelite 25 carb on the thing. Maybe I had a bad one? It sure started easy and tuned up just fine.

What brand is your engine? 8000 with a 16 X 6 is running real nice.

The Echo engines are a different story. They run pretty good.

Enjoy,

Jim

w8ye,

I ported it out, electronic ignition, nice spark plug, better timing and large walbro. Not sure of the exact size on the carb, would have to measure it. This engine seems to run better than most engines I have used. usually I can only get 7,000 - 7,500. For some reason this engine has better running characteristics. Maybe I just got lucky, did a better job on the ports, I dunno?

You did something right for that's pretty good power.

Be on the look out for a 120 size plane.

enjoy,

Jim
