Default New to coverts/ engine advice

Hey Guys, I would like to try converting a gas engine but with all the info here , I not sure which engine to look for.

I never flown anything over a .40 size plane, So I was thinking a 25/30 cc motor to start with??? any particular brand to look for.
I'll probally spad a plane to fit engine size, just looking for something easy to covert.

I asked around work and I've already got a few possiblities, A toro 4-stroke, a off brand small chainsaw, and maybe one old weedeater.

thanks in advance.

Most of the 22 to 30cc guys require a bit of cutting, grinding, etc. to get them ready. People ask me how I do it, and I say "Well, I just cut and grind away everything that doesn't look like a model airplane engine.... "

Anyway, a nice engine close to your size range, but easy to convert would be more like the Homelite 33cc engine out of the "Bandit" chainsaws. Easy to convert, and they work really well. Another would be the Poulan 33cc. Weight will probably be the same, if not less than the 25/30cc engines that are a bit more work to convert.

Good luck, it's a blast,

I would add that any Echo 21cc and up make great and powerful conversions. The Echo CS-4400 and CS-510 chainsaw motors are the same ones used by BME Engines. I have done each one and they are awesome. Also picked up a couple of new Toro 25cc motors. Just made the prop hub tonight and will be trimming the case tomorrow. This one has been very easy to do.

Yep, I love the Echo engines also. But there is a little cutting and dressing up to do on them. Not bad, but they are not quite as easy as the ones mentioned. I have two Echo engines flying at the moment, and they work great!

Thanks for the tips , the cutting/welding isn't aproblem for me I just didn't want to grab amotor that would be useless to me. I will start looking for a Echo, homelite, or Pulan to get to work on.

Thanks again

The Poulan Weed Eater 19 and 21's will convert easy but don't make much power without a lot of work.

The recent trend has been to smaller chain saws because of weed whacker availability but that seems to be changing.

To buy a new Echo whacker to convert is rather expensive.

Enjoy,

Jim
