Hello,
Recently I purchased a Ryobi engine and conversion kit. I tore it apart and put the kit together and it looks just like the pictures (go figure), but not untill yesterday I realized I had thrown the choke away when I tore it apart! Is the choke REALLY necessary to start it? Can I just close the carb. in order to start/prime it? This is my first gas engine and its going on a 1/4 scale Sig Cap 231. Also, I would really appreciate if anybody who has experience with these engines to tell me what needs to be where before I start this thing, as I really dont know (like a check list of some sort). And lastly, the needles on the carb have the stock plastic covers on them, are those supposed to be removed or should I just leave them? Ill post pictures if necessary. Thanks guys, I really hope I can get this thing running!

Yes.Take the plastic from the needle valves if you cant adjust them enough or at all.........Generally speaking you will have to richen the mixture slightly since the air cleaner has been removed. Better air flow to the carb.
The choke plate is a different matter. They do like to be wwwwwet to start..........kind of hard to get a finger to the carb when cranking to.
Mine is ful choke till she fires then 1/2 choke to warm up slightly. Maybe you could fab something out of a small piece of sheet metal.
