4 stroke weed eater engines

Does any one have any observation on the 4 stroke weed trimmer engines? The one that makes my liver quiver is the Shindaiwa that mixes the oil in the gas rather than having a crank case oil resivoir.
I'd like to build a 1/4 Cub and go gas but prefer the sound of a 4 stroker and the Shindaiwa scheme might allow for an inverted installation.
Any thoughts?

I bought one of those new Craftsman 4 stroke engines that you don't have to mix gas & oil and has an oil reservoir. Easy starting engine and runs and sounds great. I'm wanting to get some time on it so I can get another, (so wife won't kill me) and use it on a plane. The weedeater only cost me 180.00 from Sears. I'll be interested to know what you go with and how it works. Best of luck and let us know.

Honda and Ryobi have 4-stroke weedies that are supposed to run inverted. The Ryobi I have on the shelf, sure would like some oil in the sump (piston crown when inverted) and in the mix I think.

The Craftsman 34cc uses a Briggs Fource engine. Here's a link to the thread that shows pics of my Fource 34cc that was converted by Scott Ellingson at Brillelli. I have not run this engine yet. I am sure that Scott will make up a prop hub and mounting plate or do the wole conversion for anone who is interested.

The engine is quite heavy but should be just right for a WW1 type aircraft that it is destined for.
The followig link to another conversion - this time by Prop Nut - shows one being used in a Balsa USA Fokker DVII biplane that weigh's around 20lb. If you look at Prop Nut's videos of the fokker, the engine hauls it around the sky really well and sounds superb.

If you do a search there are quite a few threads on theBriggs 34cc here on RCU.
I notice that Sears now has 29cc and 40cc four stroke strimers. Does anyone know the manufacturer of these engines?
Maninder Sohi.
