Default 4 Stroke power?

I just cant seem to find the answer im looking for sooooooo
Im building a Hostetler Cessna 182/120WS. Im told a saito 300 twin will fly the plane as will a G62.
I would like to use a 4 stroke gas engine but i don't think there is one suitable. From what i read there just not quit power full enough . With a G62 i plan on starting out with a 20X10 3 blade prop. Is there a 4 stroke weedie engine that would work?
Thanks
Pat

My comments will certainly defer to more knowledge and I in no way want to damper enthusiasm to make one work but I've investigated using a 4 stroke trimmer conversion and getting the impression that 4 stroke conversions limit model choices slightly more than 2 stroke trimmer conversions. Some are saying the greater potential are WWI scale where a lot of nose weight will be added otherwise on low wing loaded air frames.

I really like the sound of 4 strokes. Perhaps as they become more plentiful, we will see instances where they are made to work

Got just the engine for you. While it is true that there are limited choices in 4 strokes they are incredibly nice in the right application. What you want is the 65cc Stihl 4mix that is sold in their backpack blower. It has about the same power as a G62 and of course much better sound. It does use a fuel oil mix instead of having an oil sump so you won't get to run straight gas like the Hondas or B&S motors. However upside down mounting is a non issue. Carr Precision at www.carrprecision.com sells the conversion parts.

Cool. So it looks like it comes in the BR550 or BR600 model blower? Also here are 2 pics i stole from some one that shows a G62 mounted and the finished model. Looks like a 4mix might fit in the cowl pretty good but???

Ok after reading all the threads about the engine there is no real answer. How does the engine hold up? What rpm will it turn say a 22X10? although i'll want to use a 20X10 3 blade.? Hows does it run in the mid range? Im about ready to get one but i need a little more convincing

I have seen it fly a 1:3 pup as well as the G62 did. There is a fellow who posts in this area who put one on an aerobatic "extra" type plane and he took measurements if I recall. Try searching for stihl 4 stroke and see what comes up. Also, call Carr Precision and he can tell you what he measured. Between the two of them I am sure you can find what you need.

The Stihl 64.9 works well but is heavy, didn't pull a 24-10 any better than a G62, and the stock carb has no high speed needle adjustment...I played around with a few of these, made from NIB blowers...Great sound, but for myself I would rather use a G62 or something comparable...
They run pretty hot, my hall sensor was mounted in a pressed on aluminum ring on the front of the case...When it failed from heat I made a ring from G10, problem solved....

Right, but the key thing here is "any better". A 4 stroke conversion gasser in the mid 30s CC range is performing about like a mid 20's CC range 2 stroke. To have a 65cc conversion 4 stroke performing as well as a 62cc 2 stroke is a sign that 4 strokes are coming into their own. I have a mustang intended for a G62 sitting in bones since about 2000. Now I have a viable engine for it.

Right, but the converted Stihl is over a pound heavier..
And the torque is no better, it should pull a 24-10 faster than a G62...
If someone would make an engine like the Stihl with larger valves and a more agressive cam it would be great...
Haven't seen the Shindaiwa 80 yet, it should be quite a bit stronger...And it uses oil in the fuel like the Stihl....

For a hi performance plane the weight is a disadvantage. This plane is never gonna fly like that anyway. Im pretty sure it will be flying mid throttle 90% of the time and having such a long tail and short nose it may need some extra nose weight anyway. As long as it has close to the same power as a G62 it should work out fine. It sure does not have to be stronger then a G62 Just real close to a G62.
The spec. calls for a 3to4 CI engine. I have read the g62 is 4.75BHP the Stihl engine is 3.96CI and says 4.0BHP So it's closeish. The prototype model was flown with a Saito 300 twin it is reported to have 4.8HP but we all know how well you can trust that figure.... I REALLY REALLY want to try this engine but unfortunately i can only afford to buy one,,,And that being what it is i'll have to go with what i know will work for sure a G62
But if someone posts some REAL and accurate data that is convincing I'll sure go for the Stihl.

Maybe im not finding the right posts
This will be my first gas engine and im unsure about it all.
I know a G62 will fly the plane fine but now im having secong thoughts about the Stihl engine.
