Default CY Engines

[sm=confused.gif] Has anyone tried to convert an enginefrom these guys http://www.davesmotors.com ? I sent an email to them but it wasn't very informative as their expertise is in RC Cars and not airplanes. They give me the impression that the CY engines kind of mimic Zenoahs, or sort of. If that is the case, the shaft taper should be able to take a Zenoah prop hub, maybe? Does anyone know? I am wondering because the engines are reasonably priced and they offer porting in some of the engines that they sell, and that would be awsome to have a little engine with a little more pep (reserve power) than your regular stock airplane engine![sm=cool.gif]

CY engines are very close, might work well...
I converted a 26 with a full circle crank..Boutht a short block, removed excess material from the case, put EI and a prop hub on it, didn't run any better than a Stock G26...The larger ones might...
I have a new G26 PUH heli version engine here...It has been ported, balanced and otherwise made to work better than a stocker in a helicopter...Put a prop hub on it and ran it...Ran the same as a stock G26..9000 rpm, Mejzlik 18-6....I'm sure it will be better in the helicopter at 12,000 rpm, but the stock G26PU airplane engine is just as good in an airplane....
The grass is always greener on the other side

What about weight, please correct me if I'm mistaken, they sell aluminum head cylinders & heads?! I bet one of those would be pretty light.

All small gassers have aluminum cylinders, the head is part of the cylinder...
This one weighs 2 lbs 7 oz with a CM6 spark plug, Chinese ignition, no muffler...Almost exactly the same as a converted G26....If you do the work yourself you can save about $100 over the cost of a converted new G26.....Quality looks good, I have been told the Zenoah crank and cylinder is better in the long run....Zenoahs run up to 16,000 rpm in boats, don't know about CY cranks...
I think the QuickDraw water cooled boat engines run closer to 20,000 using Zenoah cranks...
Might be some information on Jim's Boat Dock website...
