Default Hit a "JackPot"

Actually, found a Poulan 2900 FARMHAND chainsaw at the pawn shop today. Bought it for $70. Stripped it down and low and behold it is a 46cc with the bolt on magneto Has good compression and carb is a "very clean" WT 529 - 13.?? mm Sent Mark at Brillelli an email. I am planning a giant home-built for this one!!!!!

You have any pics of it. I though only the 2775 came with a 46. I would have thought the 2900 would have a larger engine. Does the engine just unbolt from the saw?

Hi Guys,
I just looked up the Poulan 2900 and it is a 46cc. Here is the link with some detail.

Did some checking out and found out that Brillelli and Wackerengines both carry a carb adapter for the Poulan 46. I can use the original carb with the Brillelli set-up, but wackerengines uses a HDB walbro carb with his set-up. My Homey 45 runs great with the original carb - what do you guys think? I plan on swinging a 20X10 prop.

Run fast and far from the HDB carb. It is 15.8mm WAY too large for the 46. 13.5mm is all it needs. The stock carb is 13.5. I have converted over 200 of these and have tried everything. The adapter Mark (the Brill in Brillelli sells is the easiest way to go. Retains the pulse channel. Just some JB weld and you are ready to go. JB weld is a must. Silicone will let loose over time. JB is forever.

The linkage on the origional carb is a littl etroublesome, but it can be made to work. The absolute best carb for the 46 IMO is the WT-201. 150-200 more rpm than the stock carb, but it comes at a price. A Bowman ring will also bring it to life and make starting easier.

It is a good engine and very lite for the size. Even on magneto.

Scott - what do you mean by using the original carb as "troublesome" to make work. Do you need a bell crank set-up? Thanks for the input. You have my business

It is just the way the throttle and choke are tied together on those. It can be made to work, just not as simple as other carbs. If you modify it so the choke does not engage the throttle, then the choke does not stay closed. If you remove the choke compleatly it is easier to work with, but a choke is nice to have.

Are you going magneto? If so you will need a starter. They do not hand start. I managed to do it once, but man it was hard. I use an 18v drill with a starter cone chucked up in it. Works great and I can drill with it too

Yup - my Homey 45 needs the same "drill" treatment to make it submit and start!!!!!!!!

Then you are set. No real advantage then to EI besides a little weight. You will find the Homey will spin smaller props faster, but the Poulan will spin larger props like a 22x8 faster. Homey has more HP, Poulan has more torq.

Okay, stupid question time. I know it has two shafts, the shaft not used to mount the prop is left on just spinning inside the plane correct? I just got an engine similar to that one and I'm heading down the same road. So I will be spending a lot of time in this forum.

Thanks,

Layne...

Just cut the rear shaft off so it sticks out of the seal about 1/8". No need for it.
