What are you flying on "Gas/Glow"??
Hi guys,
Let's post everything we are flying on "Gas/Glow" conversions here, so that we can create a data base of engines, and planes, that do well on this particular type of conversion.
Here's what I'm flying on Gas/Glow right now.
Great Planes Giant Stik with a Poulan 42cc
NitroPlanes Big Tiger Moth with a Ryobi 31cc
Giant Scale Planes Katana 140 with an Echo 23.6cc
Great Planes 1/4 scale Fokker Triplane with an Echo 23.6cc
Hangar 9 Twist 60 with a Super Tiger .90
All these engines are good conversions, and run very well on Gas/Glow. For further info on what we call "Gas/Glow" conversions, see this thread: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_12...page_79/tm.htm
Here's some pics of the planes:
(There's also a close up pic of the Super Tiger engine, one of the Katana/Echo 23.6cc install, and a teaser pic of a twin...)
Now, how about you guys posting what you have running "Gas/Glow" conversions??

RE: What are you flying on "Gas/Glow"??
Great idea Bob Another thing that we should add and that could be helpfull to everyone, it would be to include specs like: Prop, size and brand of carb, plug although we normally use OS F4, mods if any, brand of glow fuel? final weight of plane etc.
This will help us get a feeling of wath to expect from a certain engine and what the proper combo would be.
Again great idea Bob, as soon as I can get my hands on a digital camera I will post mine.
Bill.

Actually, I can't claim credit for the idea as some others here in the forum had the idea first. I just went ahead and did it.
As far as carb brand, I'm using Walbro carbs exclusively because I've never had a problem with them and the various materials in their diaphragms with the Gas/Glow fuel. I did have some problems with two different Zama carbs with the Gas/Glow mix.
As far as props, because I like to keep the speed up on my models, and also to have the ability to fly around at half throttle with power in reserve for maneuvers, I use a little more pitch and a little less diameter than a lot of guys. On my 30cc and below engines I usually use an APC 16 x 8. An exception is the slower Fokker Triplane, on which I use an 18 x 6. Another example is the Giant Stik with a Poulan 42cc running an 18 x 8 prop, when many would run more like a 20 x 8 on that size engine. It's a matter of personal preference and matching the prop to the plane, and how you want it to fly.
But basically, let's keep most of the technical discussion in the other thread, and use this thread as a showcase and database for different engines running on Gas/Glow, and the planes they fly.
I just edited the first post to include a couple more pics....
Thanks,
