RE: What is the chane saw?
It looks like an antique. I had one from Montgomery Ward that was so heavy all you had to do was set it on the log and its weight would push the saw through the log. You may just need to get a more modern unit to get a light-weight engine.
The quality of your pictures is such that we can't read much on the label. Might be better if you type in what it says.

The cylinder is steel. The max rpm is about 6000.
You can get better stuff for free from small engine repair shops.
I recently got 20 Echo engines just for hauling them off.
Finnished weight is less than 3 pounds.
I'd post this on _bay and use the money to buy a prop hub for an Echo conversion.
The 23.6ccis the hot ticket. Older version are better. Bigger ports and better timming.

RE: What is the chane saw?
This chain saw was sold by Sears about 30 years ago. Very reliable but LOUD! Mine had a straight cast iron exhaust with no muffler. As I recall, the engine itself was cast iron...very heavy. Don't even think about converting it. I bet collectors on E-bay would be interested.

I tor the engine down to day.. It was locked up tite. It is not cast iron. It does have a steel or cast sleve in it.. I did not get the flywheel off yet.. but when I do I will she how heavy it will be.. I do not think that it will be a good engine for a plane but it is fun to play with...

Ok now this engine is a 77cc engine. what is to heavy for a engine that is this big. When I get the fly wheel off I will see how heavy this thing is and see if I can get it down. Im not looking for a grate engine right now Im just planing on having some fun with it.

"what is to heavy for a engine that is this big"
They need a lot of weight up front.
Those old radial engines they were designed around were pretty heavy too.
You can look around and find out how much weight up front it takes to balance one of these out
and go from there.

RE: What is the chane saw?
I got the engine all torn down now. It is a 77cc engine. I put it on a big diet. I put all the parts but the carb on my scall and it came out to be 5 lb and 6zo. That is with out a mufler. or prop hub.
Do you think that this engine will be to heavy for a 77cc engine?
I think I am going to play with it more. I am not sure on what to do about a prop hub yet. I will be putting a CH ignition on it. The fly wheel and mag that was on the engine are very big and heavy.
I have made prop hubs before but they only was for a 16" prop. If this enine works it will run a 22" to 24". making a prob hub that will take a prop that big will have to be a good and strong one.
What do you all think

RE: What is the chane saw?
The weight does not matter.
Matching it with an airplane is the trick.
I'd say a 25 to 30% WWII war bird should do it nicely.
Look around and ask a lot of questions.
There was a 72cc Husky conversion just sold here on RCU that I had my eye on.
It weighed 4 1/4 pounds.
Big and strong engine but if you have to add nose weight then the light weight means nothing.

4 1/2 lbs for a 72. Some how that just dont look right. but that would be a good engine to put on a plane that can have that low of waight and be over powerd for alot of fun
You can not have to much power
I am planing on puting it on a midwest extra 300 I had a 3w 42 on it and had to put alot of weight on the nose of it, and it just did not have the power that that plane needed. [] and it crashed. Took out the hole front of the plane. [:@] If I can get this engine to work good I will rebiled the plane for this engine to fit. that is if this engine will work. I got alot to do like a prop hub like I sead before that is goignt obe the tuff part. If I cant get it to work I will have to find me a saw that will and do that one.
