Default pinning a piston?

I have a 25cc piston that I want to pin the ring so I can take the blockage out of the exhaust port. Can a stock ring be pinned? Anyone have close up pics of the process?

This is a good mod, and worth doing. You need to get a new ring from Frank Bowman that is made for use with a pin however. It could be done with a stock, or original ring but the ring gap would be wide and you would lose power.

Better yet send your piston to Frank.

Have him pin it and install one of his famous rings.

You will be one Happy Camper.

Well Captin, Does Frank Bowman cut piston groves in a blank piston for his rings?

Also does he cut ring grooves in old pistons for a second ring?

Yes Frank can do all that...but it sounds real easy to do it for myself. He is quite busy making piston rings now. I do not think adding a 2nd ring is going to help that much. Two rings will create more drag and cost twice as much I suspect. The aplication on certain engines, may make 2 rings worth it. Capt,n

I can't give you a perfect, "before, then after with no other changes" comparison, but it very definitely increases the power noticeably and is a very good modification to do. I do it to any Homelite 25cc I convert, whether it is for me or someone else....
