unfortunatly i cant get any free or low pay engines here, no one leaves them at the repair shop hoping that they can sell them or jsut simply keep them
so i had to pay $100 for a 28cc full crank engine[:@][:@]
BUT it is a real performer!! spins up a 18x6 to 8000rpm and a 14x7x3 up to 10,000+ (yes that's too high)

but trimmers, second hand, rubbish and giveaways are also good engines.

I have just been offered two weedwhackers with approx. 35cc engines in each. What size of aircraft would be a good match for these (i.e. .40 , .60, .90 size)?? I have been reading through a lot of the posts on conversions, fuel mixes, and other ins-n-outs and I have concluded that it is definatgely do-able. Any inputs would be appreciated!

I'll have to get back to you for the brand. I only had time to see the displacements. My father-in-law is clearing out his shed and I can't for the life of me remember what brand of trimmers they were.

I was kinda hoping to squeeze them into a .60/.90 sized without ripping the wings off, LOL!

Ralph -hope this helps, also you can go in the search bar like I did. and type weed-wacker powered boats-etc.
And it will give you about three excellent sites.
As for boats large enough, use the old 2-cycle snow blower engine and the mounts, it will bolt right in.
I also used weed-wacker motors for the cable drive, for you just shorten the cable, and make your own mount, or take it to the local machinist.
They are always up for a good challenge!

hi guys, i'm a small engine mechanic. most chain saw engines have roller brgs on the drive side of engine crank and are put there to handle loads from cutting chain, and can cause some probs. with prop shaft run out/woble, and resultant excessive vibs. the roller brgs are great for those side loads in saws, but most are fitted to lose for effective r/c use, at least this has been my exper. blower and weedy engs. useally have ball brgs. on both ends and are better suited for r/c use. too bad because saw engines make a bunch more power. take all this for what it's worth to you.
