Planning my first gas conversion project. Looking in the 31cc vicinity. I want something quick to build (ARF) under $200, basic acrobatics. Stik planes are probably the ticket here. How about a GP BigStik 60? Other contenders for the throne? A search reveals limited results for stiks. Thanks.

Best ARF combo I've see so far is the H9 UltraStick.
Here's a thread with converted Ryobi...looks sharp...
One of the secrets is to look at the WING AREA...
GO for about 1200 square inches if you can...
With the Ryobi 31cc conversion, I would bring the nose back about 1-2 inches though...easy modification. And put the elevator and rudder servo in the tail.

A good thread here on one...

I would like to find a good airframe similar to a "stick" style plane for the Poulan 46. Something like a Modeltech Magic or similar layout ; just BIGGER. I would even scratch build something if a good design is out there.
Did they stop making the 120 Ultra Stick??

I'm just about to finish up a UltraStick with a G38 with CH Ignition
Three servos in the tail and four in the wing plus throttle...
Wires are going everywhere...
Can't wate....

I'm flying a Hangar 9 Ultra Stik on a homey 25cc and about to HOP-It-Up to a Homey 33cc.
For lots of articles and links to conversions try
http://webpages.charter.net/rsengineconversions/
You just can't beat the designs and engineering involved there.

Hi you don't mind scratch building, you might look at the Ryans Rebel in the November RCM mag. engine choice is ryobi 33cc, g38, or reinforcing the fire wall if you go bigger, according to the designer. He posts on this forum as RYAN'S REBEL.

There is a kit called a Road Runner thats about the best for these engines. It was designed to fly with a 120 4c and up.
I seen about 6 with various weedies in them.
Check in NIB Kits, or just use search for some pictures. Call 307 856 4630 for $$ and info

If you would like some thing ultra inexpensive and a little unusual maybe a giant SPAD would work. Without the radio a couple nights and about 20.00 worth of mat. and you have a giant trainer. Pics in my gallery. Steve

Nice JOB!!
Got any dimensions on that SPAD?
Span, Chord, Horz Stab Span...fuse length...ect...
I've been thinking about doing just that...only copying a 1.20 UltraStick...
I've done a even simpler design for the beam-style motors like Homelite 33/45 and Poulan chainsaw engines... ALSO in my gallery. Using 6 ft pine/poplar furring strips 3/4 x 1 1/2.
Using one for spar and two for a "rail-type" fuse... 60 inches long, 72 inch span...
This isn't the giant cub SPAD that I saw video of torqe rolling is it?? Totally trippy...I'll post a link here if ya'll want to see it...

Very good ideas. I've searched for an Ultra 120, none to be found.
I am currently flying 4 SPADS of various designs. I've pondered a 31cc Spad design, but was concerned about weight. Only a couple successful gas models on various Spad websites. A gas DPS type would be interesting. The Spad concept and gas conversions seem to be a good match.
Can't seem to find the Big Bee...will search more. The Big Stik looks like a possibility.
To conversion vets...it seems there are a variety opinions of ways to go (cc size wise)...does it make sense to start at least at 31cc with the type of planes we are discussing?

I bought a Big Bee here:
http://www.sheldonshobbies.com/listing/hotdealair.html
Good or bad, I also bought a Macs tuned pipe here as well. (MAC1196)
http://www.btown.com/sheldons/listing/mac.html
I need to either make a header or suck it up and buy one direct from Macs (expensive).
I've raised and enlarged the exhaust ports on the Ryobi and installed a new ring. The compression is definately better than the stock one. I need to pick up a tach. The engine does seem to run stronger (screwed into a fencepost) but don't have any numbers to prove it. I'll need the tach to try out the pipe.
I get a big grin every time I fire up that motor!

Whooooooo, Bridi isn't showing the Big Bee....must be out...
Have you really got a Ryobi 31 on this..(Gotta ask)
Had to put a G62 on mine.......GRINNNNNNN!!!!!
Won't land on a paved runway....but goes straight up....
Would be about right for a Poulin 46...

This is my first ARF with the Ultra Stick....and probably my last ARF...
By the time I get this one tricked out, I really could have built and covered two...

No Prob on my part Big Bird...I enjoy the off-topic posts just as much....this place is such a wealth of knowledge...
Its just a bummer with the "tone" gets negative...I ignore those threads.
Take the moral high ground....in any situation...
I've been tossing this SPAD UltraStick idea around for a couple days.....sounds very feasible ...at ARF assembly time and durable to say the least....shouldn't be more than 50 bux of materials for an entire airframe.....
High Flights!!
