Default Making the hole in my intake bigger.

Hi there all.

I am going to make the hole in my intake bigger. I want the hole in the intake the same as the hole in my carb. I was doing some reading about it on RCU but cant find it.[:@]

What is a good way to do this? If I remember it said not to drill it out. So what do I do?[sm=confused.gif]

Thanks

Paul

Use a small sanding drum in a Dremel tool. It grinds out quick and easy. Don´t use a drill bit as the chances of the drill bit "catching" or grabbing in the material and then breaking the adapter are high.

I agree. How much do you need to go? Do you know someone with a lathe or mill that could do the job?

I had to open the plastic manifold on my SPE 26 to match the carb. Hand files did this perfectly well.

I didn't get where I am today by using a lathe or mill [sm=bananahead.gif]

If ya dont have a dremel or similier, wrap some sandpaper around a 1/4 or 3/8 wooden dowel rod and put this in a hand drill, electric drill, cordless, whatever you have and use it.Use 120-220 grit sandpaper. If ya want to smooth it out even more use one of the smooth scratchers used for cleaning dishes.Wrap it around the same rod or you could even use a pencil.

I have a dremel. I will measure it out and see how much I have to take off. I think the best way would for me to take a piece of paper and cut a hole out in it the same as the carb and then mark the intake. Then make with the dremel until I get it were I want it.

I will let you all know how it all work out.

I put this homie 25cc on a GP Spacewalker. I was getting good RPMs out of it with the stock carb. but you know how it is. GOT TO HAVE MORE. lol

Well I did like you all said and took a sanding drum and made the hole in the intake the same as the carb. The edge were the pump vent was so thin it cut my gasget.

So what did I do wrong

Is your hole nice and round or kinda oblong or egg shaped. As the drum is spinning around if you dont hold pressure against the torque of the motor your hole will be off center a little. Not sure if this is what you mean or if ya mean the edge of the pulse hole is so sharp it cut the gasket. If this is the case sand the sharp egde flat.Take the intake manifold and sand the whole thing flat on a piece of sandpaper on a board.

Use an external pressure line instead.

To mod your intake to accept a big bore carb you need to use some JB weld to fill in all of the void holes in it (The pulse grove will be filled in).
Also you need to use a screw with a piece of plastic tube or spacer on it so that you can fill in the area as shown for the mounting . After you put on the epoxy use a razor blade to smear off the acsess. Then you have to drill out your carb & motor case and install a nipple in them so that the carb will work. Hope this helps. Tried to fing more pictures but this was all I could find.

Nothing much. The engine should run fine. The other thing you could do is use a countersink. Then youy would just open the part below the carb a little and then it would taper to its normal size and actually act like a venturi.
